Should I get a vasectomy?

Here is the deal. I'm almost 36, been divorced over ten years. I can't imagine ever wanting to be married again. I have spoken with several close friends and they all say that I am crazy for even considering it, since I might "meet someone", blah blah blah. I always have safe sex, but an unplanned pregnancy is not something I want to deal with.

"SexyNurse" - how quick to judge! I am a far cry from being a "player" and using women as sperm deposit boxes. You sound a little bitter.

Getting a vasectomy is a no-brain-er. I had mine when I was 21. I have no children.

It only takes about 15 min. It is almost painless, and recovery only takes 2-5 days. It is the responsible thing to do. I think it was the best choice I ever made.

Just keep your mouth shut about it, because many women will consider you up-datable. The other thing is you need to know is you will still have to use condoms so you don’t get an STD.

You haven't found someone to commit to that way in the last 10 years. Anyone you are with at 36 is probably going to have already "been there and done that" as they will be your age too. I think you are probably old enough to know what you do and don't want so if you can't imagine raising a 10 year old when you are almost 50, I'd say it was a reasonable choice.

Well, if you're willing to take the risk, go right ahead. Make sure to think closely about how much you've changed in the past ten years first, though, and think if maybe you won't change in the next ten... Vasectomies can be reversed, but the number of people the reversal actually -works- on is very, very low.

If you are 100% sure I think it is a great option. More people should consider this then we wouldnt have all these dads going aroung with 5 kids to 5 different women not supporting any of them.

If you get the vasectomy, you will thank yourself 100 times over. It is a good financial choice. I got mine when I was 24/25, and 10 years later I am still thankful. I had mine for a different reason - I don't want children.

Get the vasectomy unless you want to have kids.

Even if you want to have kids, get the vasectomy after making a couple of deposits in a sperm bank. Then if you do marry, and want kids, it will still be possible.

So cut the tubes, but continue to wrap the willie.

If you don't EVER want to have kids I say go for it - I decided I did not want kids earlier than that but I've never had anything done about it since the fear of getting a woman pregnant is just another reason to make a guy wear a condom!!

No, not yet. There's really no such thing as 100% safe sex, but condoms combined with sobriety come close. Someday you might become a father and find that you waited for all the right reasons. I hope so.

A good doctor can perform a vasectomy in about an hour or so. They can even be reversed. Its just an office visit. If you decide to do it, then you should not be worried about getting a gal knocked up should an accident happen.

If you are absolutely sure you should. You don't want kids, then make it happen. But as fate always has it, you might meet some beautiful woman you want to marry, share your life with, and have children with... What will you do then? Don't be so sure there is no one else in the world for you.. But if you are sure you want no kids, do it. It's your body!
