I know there are many people who wait later in lives to have kids, but I'm 34 and husband is 38. We are looking at conceiving within the next two years. If that happens, we will be 46 and 50 with a 10 yr. old, 56 and 60 with a 20 yr old. Did we miss our window of opportunity? It just seems like we will be too old...

You are not too old to have a baby! As a matter of fact, if you get pregnant within the next 2 years, you will still be OK. They usually don't test for Downes until after the mother is 40 years of age, but that is only because there is a SLIGHT increased risk for that after 40. Also, many people older than 40 have had babies who were healthy! I've even known people who have had change of life babies (after the woman thought she was through menapause!) and the babies were healthy. Good Luck getting pregnant, It's always nice for a baby to have 2 parents who will love him/her!

You are still within the normal age range to have a baby. I don't think that being 56 with a 20 year old is too old at all. If you try more than 6 months and can't get pregnant, go ahead and see a doctor to make sure everything is ok. Good luck!

Well I can't stand her and the possibility of her being there for 3 weeks is nil I think! If she were to go into hospital for whatever reason she would have had to leave the baby so I don't really see anything wrong with it as long as the baby is looked after by someone else close to it. I am not defending her but merely giving my opinion!!

A man can father a child at any age really, so no problems there:) There is a slightly higher risk after the age of 35 for a woman, but even then I know lots of women 35+ that have borne healthy little babies, I know a woman (44) that just had a beautiful healthy baby boy. So no, you are not to old. If you want to bring forth a baby, to love and care for, then more power to you!

That is still within the range of normal but I wouldn't keep putting it off. Mother nature has a way of surprising you and it may not happen as easily as you think. If your period is nice and regular and you know you are ovulating then you are probably fine. Just remember that the clock is ticking, and you may want a sibling to go along with this child.

That is not too old at all. My parents didn't start having kids till they were 30. They had four and all 2 years apart. My parents may be older than some of my friends parents but that doesn't mean they aren't as good. I actually think it worked out better. They were older and wiser. lol
My husband's parents were also older when they had kids.
As long as your able and willing I don't think your too old. :)

lots of people don't have children until they are your age, i would say that 50 is pushing it to have a baby but earlier is fine. you will of course find that when your child gets into school there are a lot of parents that are much younger than you and that is just a fact of life. you have to realize that many people have kids at 16-20 and you may feel a little out of place.
good luck!

I don't think you are too old. It will most defiantly be a different experience for you then for me but that's great. Life is what you make it. Don't let anyone tell you different. If you're 56 when he/she is 20--who cares?
