I was just prescribed Tranxene for anxiety. I asked the doc about Xanax and he wouldn't give it to me. I didn't know Tranxene was a benzo I called a pharmacy that doesn't have benzos and they claimed Tranxene was a form of Xanax or something. How similar are these two drugs?

Tranxene is an old medication and many pharmacies don't stock it anymore. The truth is that the pharmacy you called probably does not have it and won't order it for you if your prescription is for a small quantity. They don't want to order a bottle of 100 tablet for a prescription for 30 tablets and get stuck with the rest. Try some other pharmacies.

I took xanax long ago for panic attacks. When I ran out and was still facing depression issues I started drinking alcohol for the first time. I started drinking so much I would pass out nightly. later I went through rehab and the doctor told me that xanax has the same base properties of alcohol. It is like concentrated alcohol. My body's addiction to xanax could not be relieved by any alcohol I could drink. He said it was not uncommon for people to have drinking problems after taking xanax.

Yes, they can decrease your blood pressure and pulse rate. I actually know of a couple of people that have died as a result of an overdose. However, it is not a painless way to go, nor is it a for sure way to commit suicide and you will more likely end up highly sick in the ER. I highly suggest that you contact someone to discuss why you are feeling so depressed and suicidal. 1-800-273-TALK (8255) You will be routed to the closest possible crisis center in your area. All the benzos work about the same, the difference is how long they last.
It's odd for a pharmacy to not have any benzodiazepines because they are very popular medications.
