Feta (greek cheese) is a good alternative to Ricotta..
Otherwise choose any cheese to your own taste (gouda, edam, cheddar, jack or any other hard cheese grated and mixed with mozarella gives a good texture), crumbled french goat cheese also gives a great flavour.
Take your pick! Or try different mixtures till you find the one that pleases you most...

I never use ricotta or cottage cheese in lasagna. Have tried nearly every other kind though. I like aged cheddar or parmesan particularly, but also like swiss, gouda, german butter cheese , havarti, monterey jack or motzarella

You can use 1 can condensed cream of mushroom soup mixed with 1 cup sour cream instead of the ricotta cheese

If you can find "new" or "young" cheese where you are, give that a try. It's nice and mild.
Otherise, the combo of mozerella and parmesian works pretty nicely. I don't necessarily like either of the two on its own in lasagna.

I love making it with just mozzarella, because I'm not a huge fan of ricotta. Try it - I bet you'll really like it.
