Visited doctor today with the said question. It is excrutiating and lasts betwen 5 and perhaps, 30 seconds. Have had this for 2 weeks, at least, with those symptoms. However, I have had "twinges" in my right temple for 6 months (infrequently). I have felt it rushing toward my nose on 3 occassions. I have felt a 'flutter' in my ear twice. My eyes have been tested and the result was "tell your doctor you have the all clear from us". My doctor suggested another eye test, or anemia (I have NO other symptoms) or stress. I have no other stress than day to day having a toddler and have no sudden changes. Any ideas?

Oh, sorry - my blood pressure was, apparently "very normal". Doc checked in my ears and nothing to report.

No runny eyes or nose. This can happen at any time; eg: top of stairs, head down at bottom of closet, speaking in general in the kitchen, in the pub with a pal just passing the time of day, standing over the cooker. I am worried because the pain is god damned awful.

Do you have stuffy/ runny nose or runny eyes with it? if yes cluster headache is one possibility.
Eye problems is a rare cause of headache, similarly high BP is also usually asymptomatic.
