The total is around $15, and I am being charged a delivery fee of $1.25. Does the delivery fee go to pay the driver, or am I expected to tip in addition to that amount?

So the total order is $16.25 (pizza plus delivery fee).

I always order from Pizza Hut and they charge the 1.25 delivery fee. I once asked a delivery guy if he had to pay for his own gas or was reimbursed for it. ( I always wondered that.) Anyway, he told me that they are given a percentage of the delivery fee. I think .75 per delivery. And that more than covered the money he spent on gas in one night. So to me, the remainder of that is like added tips. because of that I don't tip as much as I used to.
Pre delivery fee- 5.00
Post delivery fee-3.00

Apparently the delivery charge does not go to the driver. I have called domino's and asked them this personally (because I always tip my pizza guy $2 because he is literally ONE block from my house. ) The manager confirmed the tip does not go to the driver so you should tip your pizza guy. I think that $2 is appropriate, considering that your pizza is under $20. He is not sharing that tip with anyone.

I'd still give the driver $2-3. Someone else said something about the delivery fee being more administrative.

That why you just order and pick up pizza from the restaurant so you don't have to tip. I've seen hidden cameras on the news what some delivery people do to the food. One delivery person dropped food on the ground and picked it back up and put the food back. There are other disgusting incidents.

I usually give three dollars. That is a good question though, because the rate of tips is going up. Now it is like the tip at a restaurant for your hour long meal you end up paying 20 percent of the bill which is more than I make per hour myself! And they have four or five tables....
I don't know I wonder what the average is.

You are expected to tip in addition to that amount. It seems $2-3 is standard, but on rainy nights it is always kind to tip a little more.

If you really want to get mathematic .. add 42 cents per mile for wear and tear to their car, add in cost of gas, and convenience of not having to leave your house.

It is etiquette to tip him above that amount. That charge pays for the gas, insurance and payments on the already broken down car that we drive.

If you spent all day delivering 30 pizzas for 1.25 each, how soon would it take for you to hang yourself?

tip him on his peformance. see if the pizza is cold or has everything you wanted on it.if its less that 30 minutes then give him a big tip. if ittakes a hour to wait dont tip him. he he gets everything right and it takes him 20 minutes then give him $3.
an average is $1 - $5.
