You need to find a dentist (listerine will not help a tooth infection)
The ampicillin will help keep the pain at bay and some swelling down, but you need to find a dentist soon. Especially with you wife being a diabetic, don't wait. Some hospitals have dental clinic or may be able to lead you to a dental clinic in your area. Good luck

OFTEN THE PAIN IS CAUSED BY INFLAMMATION. YOU NEED TO TAKE IBUPROFEN (ADVIL) 3-4 TABETS THIS IS EQUAL TO 600mg -800mg OF IBUPROFEN WHICH WILL BE VERY EFFECTIVE FOR PAIN CONTROL.
TO FULLY SOLVE THE PROBLEM, SEE A DENTAL SCHOOL WHERE COSTS ARE MORE REASONABLE THAN IN PRIVATE PRACTICE.

LISTERINE!
Sounds simple, but I broke my tooth in half and couldn't afford to go to the dentist for about a month. I was in TERRIBLE pain!
Listerine mouthwash is the ONLY thing that helped! Go get some and have her swish with it 4 or so times a day or whenever it starts "acting up"!
