you need to come up with a system of rewards/penalties for exercising. it doesn't have to be a big complicated system, just something like no TV/Internet/dinner/ or whatever you enjoy doing at the end of the day, until you work out. obviously, you have to "enforce" your own rules, but at least it will get you thinking about the consequences of not doing something you are supposed to do...and don't forget to reward yourself when you do. have a smoothie or something else you enjoy as a reward to yourself.
once you do it for a few weeks, it will become a part of your routine and you wont even think, you will just start doing it.

well, if you see that elliptical and think "exercise, UGH", find a different activity that you don't dread. just be creative. if you like to walk, go to the park and get on a people trail. same thing if you like biking or roller skating.
swimming is a great total-body exercise that doesn't feel like exercise (per se). as long as you find something fun, you won't think of it as a dreaded activity.
something else that helps is getting out of the house. that might be part of the problem. it is very hard to work out at home. there are too many distractions and the couch is always so close. (lol). even if you cannot afford to join a gym, getting up and getting out could help.
grab a friend to help motivate you. it's always easier to stick to a goal if you have someone 'depending' on you to be there. support one another's efforts.
good luck!

Well, chances are if you want to lose weight you are unhappy with your body. I know its hard to get the motivation to workout since I am trying to lose weight myself, however you really just need to evaluate how bad you really want to lose weight. If you are self-consious with your body think of how happy you will be once you lose weight. You don't know if you'll lose weight until you TRY. So for one week everyday, exercise and see if you've lost any weight (1-2 pounds is considered a healthy longterm weight loss) and if you have lost weight surely you'll continue working out because you'll want to lose more weight. For exercise do things you find are fun, with your elliptical trainer listen to music or watch tv as your doing it, you don't even have to do it rigorously, just try to tell yourself it's not that big of a deal. Also, try dancing, playing sports, walking, running, jumproping, lifting weights. Anything to burn calories--tell yourself/remind yourself that you want to feel good about yourself and be happy with your body, so you need to exercise. The one who will benefit from weightloss will be you, so your doing it for yourself, your self esteem and your health. Think of how happy you'll be and all the compliments you'll get. Find the motivation deep inside you and don't lose grip of it. Also I have found it to be a big help to write down my exercising schedule for the week ahead of time for a checklist and check my exercises off as I go that way I don't make up excuses for not knowing what to do for a workout and whatnot. Good luck, best wishes.
Don't quit when the tide is lowest,
For it's just about to turn;
Don't quit over doubts and questions,
For there's something you may learn.
Don't quit when the night is darkest,
For it's just a while 'til dawn;
Don't quit when you've run the farthest,
For the race is almost won.
Don't quit when the hill is steepest,
For your goal is almost nigh;
Don't quit, for you're not a failure
Until you fail to try.

It's hard to get yourself to start excersising. After a week or so of using your elliptical trainer it won't seem as hard because you will start to get in shape. You might actually start to like doing it.

set some mini acheiveable goals for it to help guide you in the right direction.
set a goal to run on it for 5 minutes, then 10, then 15.
listening to an ipod, watching tv, reading a magazine, or talking on the phone makes things easier also.

Don't think of exercising as a physical thing as you need to look slimmer, sexier or whatever, but rather to feel good and be more healthier. Think about just letting yourself go and imagine how you would look and feel if you did.
