If it was from flesa why just the rear end? I have the bio spot monthly treatment on her and I give her a flea bath monthly. She is not infested with fleas or anything I hardly see any at all. Just a few sometimes. Can someone help me with this and not just say She HAS FLEAS because that is not the case. And I know to call vet but I wanted your input too.. THanks to anyone who can help.

I know you don't want to hear this but I am 100% positive what is going on. Please hear me out before you decide to get mad!

Fleas make dogs bite and chew at the spot just above their tail
Dogs can be allergic to flea saliva -- fleas have saliva that gets into the dog's skin when the flea takes a blood meal -- and *with some dogs all it takes is ONE flea bite!* It doesn't require infestation to drive a dog crazy. You already said you see a few sometimes. There's your answer!

I don't want to yell this but I just want to stress it very strongly: BIO SPOT DOES NOT WORK AND IS DANGEROUS! I have seen cats and chiahuahuas die from bio spot. They can seizure and die within a few hours of application. I have seen it. I have treated animals for it. I have seen them die from it.

Flea shampoos do not control fleas.

You must treat your environment for fleas. For every ONE flea you see on your dog, there are FIFTY fleas in the house, carpet, under the sofa, on the rug, etc. Those fleas are breeding and laying eggs and waiting to jump on your dog.

Summary: All it takes is one flea bite. Bio spot is dangerous and doesn't work. Flea shampoos don't work.

Your best bet: Go to your vet and get a Capstar and start Frontline or some type of safe and effective flea control from your vet. Capstar is a pill that will kill all the fleas on her right now, and Frontline will keep them off for one month. Or talk to your vet about other safe flea preventatives.

The longer you pretend that its not fleas, the longer your dog will have a bald spot above her tail. Good luck

She might be having a reaction to all the flea products. What brand are you using? It might also be allergies, or mange a parasite that does cause patches of fur to fall out. Does she have any contact with any other animals? Perhaps in the neighborhood? Mange is highly contagious. Maybe stop using all that flea stuff, or switch brands. The vet will most likely take a skin scraping of the hairless area and put it under a scope to know for sure. Hope these possibilities help you, just throwing them out there. Good luck.

My dog has the same problem and so I give him benadryl allergy pills from the drug store. One in the morning and 1 in evening completely stops his scratching and chewing.

Check with your vet first some animals can take aspirin and drug store stuff but some it will actually KILL. So ask vet first.

I also use a lotion called "gloves in a bottle" is really great stuff. It completely stops itching. If I get mosquito bites I go get the lotion and it has great healing powers also.

It's very nice that you are concerned. I know they are misserable when they itch all the time.

She doesn't have fleas, so don't focus so much on the flea issue. She may have worms, if she tries to bite her bum, or she may have a skin problem, like a fungus. So de-worm her and take her to the vet to check her skin.
