Could it harm the bird?

They're in a bottom tray liner, she has no direct contact with the chips but are they bad for the bird?

The others are right... cedar is very toxic. Best bet is to use newspaper to line the bottom of your baby's cage. Or you can use regular paper (printer/copier paper) if it's a small sized cage. I use newspaper in the bottom tray and then plain white paper towels on top of the bottom floor of the cage. They have access to the paper towels, but as long as they are white (no prints) it's ok for them to tear apart... plus it helps a great deal in cleaning as it catches most of the icky stuff before it hits the bottom tray.

Hope this helps!

I belong to a wonderful bird board, www.theperch.net that I strongly urge any bird owners I meet to join. NO, remove them they give off a poisonous chemical mainly when wet. But all the time. They will kill them. They will kill dogs, cats and rodents. Just because the bag says you can you can't. Also corn cob, walnut are bad as they can swallow them and get an obstruction. Pine shouldn't be used either but breeders use it in the nest box. I use paper towels or news paper. But don't use colored news paper just black and white the ink on the black and white is safe as they use soy in it.

You need to remove them as soon as you can.
The phenols released from cedar are toxic and can cause lung and liver problems.
Cedar should not be used with any small animal or reptile for the same reason.

Get them out!

Use paper... not chips, shavings, corn cob bedding, etc.
