For a really beautiful depiction of a real-life artist who slowly goes mad, check out the brilliant "Camille Claude" (1988) - it's French, but the message is still very clear.
Final choice is "A Beautiful Mind" (2001).
Very well done...and the viewer even begins to have problems distinguishing reality from fantasy.
