My husband is active duty AF and we have been at our first duty station for a little over 4 years. We absolutely hate it here (Cannon AFB). He said he has done all that he can do (Updating his "Dream Sheet"). What more can he do to get orders to another CONUS base? He doesn't want to do special duty.
I know the Navy and Coast Guard have "detailers" that they work with. Does the Air Force have someone like this?
Please help!

He has looked at order swap (Listed on AFPC Virtual MPF) but nobody wants to come here.
He is E-4 right now and will most likely sew on E-5 next year as well.

Not many people are PCS'ing rigt now because of the lack of funding. Besides updating his dream sheet when the listings come out, there isn't much he can do. If you really want to move you can volunteer for overseas but not many people are getting moved there either. We are on Eglin and we know people that have been here for 10 years. This is my husband's first base and we've been here for 3 years. We were "told" that getting out of here after 2 years wouldn't be a problem..and we are still here and still hate it. Is your husband an E-5 yet? There is a better chance to move once you reach Staff. My husband sews on E-5 next year and we hope we can get out of here then..there's a lot more places he can go as a Staff. He made Staff this year but his line number is so high that he cant sew on for almost a full year.

Has he looked into "trading jobs" with someone that wants to come to Cannon? There is a listing somewhere that has a list of people (by AFSC) that want to move. If they want to come where you are and you want to go where they are, with command approval you can "trade" positions. I'm not sure if they will pay for your move if you do that though.

Air Force Pcs Orders

CONUS to CONUS pcs' are very few and far between, unless those are his only options in his career field, such as missles.
Watching the EQUAL listing and updating his dream sheet every quarter are about the only things he can do. With a line number for Staff, that might help. Also, when he reenlists he will be vulnerable as well.
He can also put in for a volunteer remote with a requested follow-on.
As for getting in touch with the folks at Randolph, it's just a really good way to make them irritated and either never leave there or end up with a non-vol remote. The AF doesn't play the same as the Navy does when it comes to orders.

Good luck!!

The military, especially the air force, is homesteading more and more often now. Basically, that means that folks are being given longer tours on stateside bases, often up to five years (I have known folks on a base for even longer) as a way to reduce costs...move less, spend less. Aside from updating his dream sheet and trying for a swap, he may be stuck. Special duty may be the way out or, and this is not a fun idea but can be effective, volunteering for a remote tour to Korea (18 months) or to deploy (if he is eligable and they need his career field and rank). The AF does not have detailers.. we don't have a whole lot of say in where we go or when. The truth is, if you have kids, this can be a good thing..more stability, a chance to get a good chunk of school in a single district, etc. Of course, if you hate the base it is a nightmare. One other idea, be sure the dream sheet includes some OCONUS (overseas) bases...at least one in each in Europe and Asia. Also, take a look at his career field. There are a few of them out there that have limited locations...communications and those who work on certain airplanes...so there may not be another location for him to go to until he makes rank.

Well first, it would depend on what AFSC he is in.

Believe it or not, alot of people put bases on their dream sheet, that don't have their AFSC on the base.

But to do a conus to consus move, he has two possibilities.

1.Reenlist and ask for a different base.

2.Or, apply for an instructor job, at his AFSC's Tech School.

The military has cut way back on pcs moves.

He can always apply for duty in Germany or Japan.

And they genaerally work with you, on assigning what Conus base you go back to.

You can also look into doing a duty swap.

You find someone in your husbands AFSC with the same rank, at a different base who is willing to swap duty assignments.

If both commanders approve the swap.

Then you take leave and pay for the move yourself.

From what I understand, the AF requires a minimum of 5 years at a base before you can request a transfer now. This is a fairly recent development, so who knows how long it will be in effect.

Typically 1 to 3 weeks prior to graduation.

If he really wants to move he needs to put in for special duty(recruiter, mti, mtl,or instructor) I was at FE Warrren for four years. I applied for recruiting and was gone in 6 months. The lack of funding is really keeping people in place

here is a little trick i found out, if he keeps updating his dream sheet week after week, it keeps coming up in the AF system and you will eventually be deployed at another base, good luck!

I got my orders the second week but I had a short tech school...they made my assignment while I was in basic.
