I was recently sent a collection notice for not paying for a class that I never even signed up for. Is there anything that I can do to fight collections on this? Do I need to contact the company that filed with collections for not receiving payment from me?

Write them a letter, explaining it is not you that owes this debt. It needs to be in writing. They will not accept a verbal disagreeance.
Even after the letter has been received by them, they notify the company in which started the collections on you anyways. They then decide whether or not to pursue.
You should check your credit with all 3 credit agencies to make sure someone has not stolen your identity. If that is the case, all questionable activity on your account will be arguable. But, that does not guarantee clearance.
Good luckl Hon.

Send the collector a certified letter, return receipt, indicating that you never signed up for this class and do not owe this debt. Request they send you proof that you signed up for this calls.

sure put it in writing and send you the copies that you signed
up for what they say you signed up for. Since it is a collection agency and not the original creditor.

You have 30 days from the date of the notice to challenge the bill. In that time they are obligated to send you proof of their claim.
