Here is my problem. 1 wisdom tooth, 75% of the enamel is gone, it's abscessed (infected) , and hurt 95% of the day.
Is there a way to get rid of the pain? I'm currently taking near lethal doses of ibuprofen (3,000MG every 24 hours), and very high doses of acetaminophen (about 4,000MG every 24 hours). These 2 drugs do almost nothing. Regular aspirin does nothing. I decided to try hydrocodone (left over from something else) , hoping to get some sleep (only sleep I got the last week was when I literally passed out), well I got about 20 minutes sleep before I woke up with severe pain, and could not go back to bed.
Topical antiseptics do not work.

My major problem is: No dentist in my area will accept payments, there are no free/low cost dental clinics, none of the 4 ERs in my area will accept patients with tooth problems. There isn't even enough enamel left for me to try pulling it myself.
My zip code is 47129.
Any ideas?

My only suggestion would be to contact the University of Louisville Dental school (you are right near there, right?) and see if they have available low-cost dental care. While there may not be any clinics around the area, often dental schools will perform simple procedures such as pulling a tooth for a small amount of money as a teaching excercise for their students. If you haven't checked already, it is worth a shot. I would be very careful about the acetaminophen if I were you, as it can cause severe liver damage.

That tooth has got to come out ASAP, that is the only way the pain will go away or stop.

It seems as though money is the main issue, in your case, and the reason you've not has this tooth extracted yet. I would suggest that you beg, borrow, or steal (figuratively speaking) to get the cash you need to have the extraction done.

Your tooth is rotting away in your jaw and if you don't act quickly, the infection could spread to your jawbone and things could get a whole lot worse.

Take out a new credit card, get a bank loan, sell some of your stuff if you have to, to be able to pay. Do you have any close friends or family who could help you out? Let them know it is a real emergency! You need to come up with the cash ASAP, this issue CANNOT wait and it must be dealt with & rectified immediately.

Best wishes, and good luck.

I just had my bottom right wisdom tooth pulled because it was really bothering me. Now it hurts more than it did before. I have dry socket! Unbelievably painful... and to top it off, I'm pregnant, so I can't take too many meds. It sounds like you need your tooth pulled and I would go to extremes to come up with the money to pay for it. Hopefully you have better luck than I've had. I've had all my other wisdom teeth pulled and the bottom right I just left alone. Just last week I had it pulled and I've never been in so much pain!! I'd rather be in labor. Good luck. And I'm sure if you explain to the dentist that you are in excruciating pain, they will get you in the same day. Try searching "Emergency Dental Clinics in ...." your area. Oh, and the $30 the last person said about a tooth extraction was bologna.... I paid $497 dollars to have mine done.... my insurance wasn't accepted. Working on filing a claim right now. Good luck my friend.

I agree with the poster who said to contact the louisville dental school. They will charge a small amount and students do it, the plus side is that they are learning and there are docs on staff to ensure it is done right. This tooth sounds like it would be an interesting extraction. I googled the louisville dental school and am attaching the link for you. Good luck, in the meantime try some cloves on the area. It is going to need antibiotics before they can even touch it. Once you get the antibiotics in your system it will calm the pain down considerably. Your body is trying to reject the tooth which is why the infection is there. I personally would take motrin or aleve, both have been shown to hep with tooth pain, but again this pain is working hand in hand with the infection so the pain will not subside until you have some antibiotics in your system or have the tooth removed. Again good luck!

You've got to find a way. Taking all that Tylenol and Aleve is going to make you sick in other ways.
A SIMPLE extraction should only be like $30, but if it's a wisdom tooth that needs more work, it will be a lot more. Get examined by somebody asap.

Have you tried to apply for a personal loan, or maybe tried to get a credit card? Maybe try to apply for a loan big enough to get all your dental work taken care of. I know some offices do in house financing. Or try to approve you for a credit card in their office. Maybe try going to a different town, maybe something bigger, where you have more options. Sounds like something severe.. Do you have insurance, thats always a plus. Definatly needs to be takin' care of..
