Just curious... why is it that some peole mock Muslim girls for wearing the head scarf even though Mary (in all the figures and pictures) is showed piously covering her head?

Is it just because they are Muslims?

(I couldn't care less about what people might think of me for doing so, but I'm just curious about what the system in some people's judgment is).

Any ideas?

Angeltress- I do understand your point, and I appreciate it, but it surprises me that many people have such a simple and, if I'm not mistaken, negative view about Muslim women.

We get sunshine whenever we want, and we don't necessarily need to go without a headscarf, we feel very free the way we are, and not at all oppressed.

We have our own money, we can shop for ourselves, we can dress however we want, and NO ONE has the right to "beat" anyone for burning dinner.

I understand where your words are coming from, but YES, hijab IS "my choice" and it's my freedom as well. In the same way you'de fight for your freedom of going without it, I'd definately fight for my right to live with it.

I love your senciraty, God bless :)

The people who mock muslim girls shouldn't do it, but in our culture, a woman who hides her hair is considered a bit silly.
I don't think anyone actually knows whether Mary walked around with her hair covered all the time or not. The figures and pictures you see are just someone's idea of how she might have looked and dressed. However, it is very possible that, on the journey to Bethlehem and from Bethlehem to Egypt, from Egypt back to Nazareth, etc, Mary may have taken a shawl along...I know I would have taken some sort of hat or hood, or at least an umbrella. I'd want to protect myself from extreme heat, wind, cold, rain...etc. That doesn't mean I'd want to wear it all the time, and, for all anyone knows, neither did Mary.
Do you not know that sunshine is actually necessary for your skin and hair to be healthy?
I also don't care what people think of me. I like the feel of the wind in my hair, I like my jeans and tee shirts, I like being able to swim in a bathing suit, I like being able to go shopping, or anywhere else I might wish to go without having to drag along a male escort, I like having my own money in my own bank account, I like knowing that if I burn dinner, nobody is going to beat me...
Now, I don't really mind if other women don't want these freedoms, but I want them to be available for all women everywhere in the world who do want them.
And I am prepared to fight for that right, as well as for your right to go around in a head scarf if that's your thing...as long as it is YOUR choice that you made on your own, for yourself.
I do hope you can understand.

because of 9/11. They have to blame other muslims for something a bunch of psychos did. And what about thye attack in london. Ever since then muslims have been disprespected especially in england. Just like the common cold, it'll go away soon.

I, personally, love scarves...

But I think it's crazy where I live because it's so hot and humid. Good for them, but I prefer comfort and I really am not big on modesty. Especially when it compromises comfort.

And how many good photographers did they have 2000 years ago. If they didn't photograph it then it was some ones imagination.

the head scarf is fine

it's when you wear the full body shield and only leave a slit for the eyes - that gives us the willies.
