I am having issues with depression... I dont have medical insurance and cant afford to visit a doctor. Even if I could I couldnt afford the meds... a friend of mine sudgested I try St Johns Wort herb for my depression. Its starting to really interfere with my life, I dont enjoy anything, I hate going out, watching tv, listening to the radio, I just want ot stay in my room and sleep. I cry every day for hours. So anyway, Ive gotten online and done some research on this herb. It says that it can interfere with different pills. Oral birth control being one of them. So my question is does anyone know if that pertains to the birth control shot? I just had a baby July 15th this year (10 weeks ago) and dont want another for atleast 3 years...... any serious input is appreciated.

Thanks

Can you go to just any normal doctor? Or does it have to be like a mental health doctor or something??? Or my OB doc?

sounds like postpartum depression. i had it after giving birth to my 1st child. it was really strange. i cried for days unable to stop and unable to tell anyone what i was upset about - because i didn't know what i was upset about.

it went away on it's own, but i wouldn't suggest waiting it out like i did. at the time i was a very young mother w/no $ or insurance and didn't know any better either. the YWCA will give you free counseling and tell you where to go for help paying for a dr. or medication. if you are breastfeeding make sure you tell the dr. some medications are not safe for the baby if you are breastfeeding.

with my my second child, i had NO depression symptoms at all...

I don't know if this interferes with bc or not...but what I do know is that sounds like post partem depression. Some people have babies and their horomones go crazy and you just can't make yourself better. You need a doctor. If you go talk to a doctor...I'm sure they'd work something out so you would be able to afford any medication. You need to be a mother to your baby and you can't do that locked in your room crying. Please make an appointment at your doctor's office right now. You do not have to feel like this. You don't deserve to. This should be the best time of your life...and it can be!! You need to get some medicine to calm down those hormones of yours...I think it'd be worth the money from the sounds of things!! Best of luck to you....get well! And congrats on your bundle of joy!! ; )

Your depression is too severe for St. John's Wort to work.
Your county mental health department helps patients without insurance, and probably has a sliding scale payment system; you may not need to pay a penny for treatment or medication.
You may qualify for Medicaid because you have a minor child.
Depression is a serious illness. For the sake of the baby, please find a way to get treatment.
