I think they make race car beds that are bigger than average toddler beds, but I may be mistaken. If not, unfortunately, it may be too late. He'll outgrow the toddler bed really soon. I got my son a regular wooden toddler bed at 19 months old, because he's tall for his age AND a climber - not a good combination! I chose a more neutral bed because kids' interests change so much, and I didn't want to be stuck with a car bed knowing he'd probably be in a baseball or dinosaur phase a month later. Anyway, if your son is too big for a race car bed, maybe you could get a regular bed with race car sheets instead. I saw a really cool pillow the other day (I think it was in Kmart) looks just like a race car. Maybe he would like something like that, and it will be easier to change when he's older.

It's not too late but he will grow out of a toddler bed soon. Toddler beds usually use a crib mattress so that should help you see if he's too big. Because he's already growing past that size anyways, I'd go ahead and get him a twin bed. They usually have those in race car form. Actually I've never seen a toddler bed as a race car bed, but if that's what you want to get him just realize you'll probably just have to buy something else in a year or two.

I would go for the race car twin bed at that age. Most kids are out of a toddler bed around 4 or 5.

No, I don't think it's too late I just think it will be a waste of money since your toddler will be needing a twin size before you know it. We live in a space cramped home and I have a 21 month old and a 7 year old, we purchased bunk beds because of lack of space. My son does GREAT! Which is really shocking. Either way you go, your son will love his new BIG boy bed!!

It's still a crib mattress, and at four, I think it is a waste. We looked everywhere for a cool twin bed, but they only seem to make fancy toddler ones. They do make race car twin beds, but man are they huge! My son had to settle for fun bedding instead.

I would go straight to a twin bed. A toddler bed will be a waste of money, he wont be in it long. My daughter is 2 and we are buying a twin bed for her.

i think all or most toddler beds have a weight limit. we just went from the crib to a single bed with a side rail that goes under the matress. my son moved lots and would fall out of bed without the mesh railing on the side.
