A dream is a story you tell yourself, about yourself. Dreams occur at a stage of the sleep cycle called REM (rapid eye movement) sleep. During the night, we go through several cycles, from light sleep to deep sleep, then back up to a lighter sleep where the REM cycle takes place. We have several dreams each night, but we don't remember them all, and some people don't remember any. As to why we only remember some dreams and not others, it could be due to the way you wake up in the morning, or it could be that you only need to remember *this* dream as significant, but not *that* dream. You may just be filing away or tossing out dreams that you feel you have no further need to look at, while remembering the one dream that you need to pay further attention to in order to obtain additional insight on yourself, and your life. In our waking lives, we are often too distracted to understand what is really going on around us, we take in an enormous amount of information we aren't even aware of, we are often too busy to stop and think a moment about things that are going on in our lives, and we can also be distracted by manipulation or pressure from others getting in the way of knowing our true feelings. The sleep cycle is crucial to helping us digest the events of the day. People who are sleep deprived for long periods can become very ill, irritable, develop a short fuse, and have hallucinations, among other things, if they are unable to get a good night's sleep. In the sleep cycle is a place where we can review our lives in peace, without distraction. We do this in the form of dreams. We tell ourselves stories. Sometimes the stories are symbolic, other times they come right out and tell you what you need to know. Sometimes we just blow off steam in alot of dream nonsense, other times we talk to ourselves about issues in our lives, and try to solve problems. We talk to ourselves in this way in symbols, to help us remember the dreams, so we can look for meaning in the symbols when we awake. Sometimes the symbols are universal, sometimes they pertain only to you, and require you to do some free association in order to find meaning in them. The symbols are a kind of shorthand, like the way "@" symbolizes "at" for example, or the way "R U there?" means "Are you there? " It is more convenient for the dreaming self to use this shorthand in order to present an entire concept in a short amount of time, in a way that you will remember it to think on later.

contrary to popular belief (good and bad) dreams are actually coursed by
evil anus fairies
that get up your butt at night and realise nasty hormones into you colon cursing bad dreams
if they are well fed and happy they give you good dream if not bad!
they very much like soft fruit so you can try inserting a strawberry up there at bed time or
you can keep them out with a little smear of super glue around you chocolate star fish before you go to bed !
