I am a christian with more of a drive to read and understand practical medical skills and knowledge, so I am fairly busy. That's my EXCUSE.

But I want to point out that a christian having read the bible through isn't reflective of his/her understanding of God. There are some few ways to know God.

1. nature
2. bible
3. holy spirit (and communion with God through prayer)

One can hold the desire of God and goodness which belongs to God, yet not have read the bible through. So, when I read that many atheist have read the bible which christians have not to mockery, I say...it is the heart that accept God, not rejects...is the issue at hand!

7--ok, open your heart, you don't have to be a biblical scholar. Do read some bible when time permits. We can avoid the dichotomous fallacy of all or nothing, can't we with this bible stuff?

I have read through the bible several times.
Scripture is spiritually discerned.
Christians should make time to read the bible.

Most of the time when saying I have read the bible, it is in response to a christian who states that I can't understand or know because I must not have read it.

And I say if you accept something without reading the fine print, you're a fool.

Added: I believe the point the asker is trying to make is that we shouldn't make fun of christians for not having read the bible because that is not the only way to understand god. To which I say, bullpuckey...they shouldn't spout off about something they have not read in its entirety.

Reading the bible from cover to cover means nothing at all as far as understanding what it contains .

Would you expect to read a medical book about Brain surgery , then be qualified as a Brain Surgeon ?? Or be qualified to even discuss it ?

Could you read a book on automatic transmissions , then be able to remove, overhaul and re-install yours ??

Most bible "experts" don`t have a clue what`s contained in the bible , even if they`ve read it through . In order to know it , one has to study it ......... like anything else .

So? I've read the Bible. I'm still an atheist. Did you have a point?

(I know a lot of Christians don't bother to read their holy book. That has been made clear!)

How can you follow the word of your god, if you've never read it? Seems kind of wishy-washy half-a**ed to me. I wouldn't call myself a Taoist without reading the Tao Te Ching...

No, it's combined with observation of Christian behavior. Also, it's asking questions about what was read in the bible and getting unsatisfactory answers.

I don't understand the idea of the Bible. It was written by men, not God himself or anything. So how can we use it as proof?

Then explain why Christians often suggest that atheists have no right to discuss Christianity because they have not read the Bible. Or are those not "real Christians"?

Actually it isn't the atheist who say that, it's the christians. " If it's in the bible it must be true" That's a direct quote.
