Almost there, the correct version is a mixture of several things mentioned above. You should end up with:
Sie versucht nur, das Beste für uns und unsere Familie zu tun.
You need the capital B because in German, nouns have a capital initial and if you use "best" this way, its "nounified" (i don't know the right word but you get the idea.
And you need the comma because without it the sentence is ambiguous and can either mean "she is only trying to do the best" or "she is trying to do only the best". A minor difference in meaning, but it's there.
