I'm really thinking about joining the coast guard but there are a lot of questions there website doesn't answer.
1. How long is an enlistment.
2. What college benefits do you recive from it?
3. How is there basic training like compared to the other branches?
4. Just a general idea of how it is to serve in the coast guard. I'm going into Health Services Technician (HS)

Note: I will be talking with a recurtier this week. Just wanted a little information before I go in blind sided.

Great to hear u are interested in the Coast Guard. Normal enlistments are for 4 years active duty and 4 years IRR. For college benies check out VA.gov
can't answer but basic is tough. See a actual unit instead of just relying on recruiters.

Actually, the Coast Guard is only under the (US?) Military's control during times of war.

Prior to the creation of the Deparment of Ignoring US Laws and Constitution...er, I mean "Homeland Security," they were agents of the US Treasury Department(?).

With the creation of the DHS, they are now under their control. If you are talking to a DoD Recruiter, you may not be able to enlist.

The link below should help you. I found it on page #1 of a Google Search.

Now, if you're not an American, and not looing for the USCGS, Google (or another Search Engine) can help you, just use the country's name, and "coast guard" as the search parameters.

an enlistment is probably between 2 and 8 yrs.

i believe that they have something similiar to the g.i. bill.

probably as rough as the navy's pretty easy.

i have no idea on day-to-day operations except that you spend alot time on the water.
