I think we may see an even further convergence of car, home audio and the computer. USB ports on the new decks is one indication of this. If you have seen the advertisments for the new i phone, its screen is impresive, i ask you why not make something like the iphone that "snaps" into the dash, connecting it to a amp subs and such. even control it from the steering wheel, in case you get that important call...

So what do you all think? what are trends you expect to see?

I would guess that in the future the entertainment systems on cars will have wireless capabilities and you'll be able to download the songs you want straight from the car. Storage devices will plug into the system like an Ipod or similar device. The possiblilities are endless. I do think that most everything will come from a server somewhere and you'll have a network to gain any info that you want.

I'm surprised that no one has made an indash computer with a wireless keyboard setup. Apple has a Mac Mini that will fit into a standard DIN opening, but I haven't seen many people put them into cars.

All just a matter of time. Back in the early 80's, I had the idea of making a CD player that went into the trunk and was controlled by the radio. Funny, Pioneer came out with the "CD changer" only a couple of years later.

Fordman is right. Actually, we have this capability now.

A carputer with a wireless card, RF amp and antenna. You could be a mobile access point.

I've successfully got the full GUI of Windows XP to fit under 700Mb running any media software you want.
