They are all beyond brave, and I hope they stay strong, even in the face of the recent crackdowns.

I feel rather helpless at the moment, because the world leaders are all standing around and blabbing uselessly.

I would suggest boycotting the 2008 Olympics, since China is being a huge, apathetic wimp about the Burmese government. Hopefully this whole issue will have ended in democracy by then, but if not, I would write to TV stations and ask them not to broadcast the games. Other than that, writing to the U.N. or local congressmen or something might help. The problem is, it seems like Burma is pretty well closed off from the rest of the world, so nothing short of an invasion would have much of an impact.

Hiya David, they are indeed worthy of our praise in the way they are trying 2 change things without resorting 2 violence. I hope that burma realises the world is watching them and trying 2 support them ( not easy ) sometimes you have 2 lose a battle 2 win a war, by keeping 2 their principles they will win eventually x

Non-violent protests only work if those in power can be shamed into doing the right thing. Otherwise, armed struggle is the only way, until and unless the world comes up with a better way. That is why Tibetans, despite decades of peaceful protests, are now a minority in Tibet. They lost.

I don't think that we can do anything at the moment, as Burma doesn't allow any foreign influence's in the country, such as Charities.

I do think that the Burmese Government should be overthrown. Screw Iraq, invade Burma.

Yea, completely respect them for what they're doing. I think we can help by writing to our own governments to put pressure on the Burmese government.
God bless

I think writing letters to the U.N. ambassador from your home country might help. (Zalmay Khalilzad if you're American.)

This will pressure the U.N. to take action. I don't know if it's as effective as writing letters to Congress, but it can't hurt.
