Someone posted an atheist's prayer, and I responded by posting Zelazny's agnostic prayer. I thought it fit the topic, and frankly I find it hilarious. I thought it would give people at least a chuckle. Rather to my surprise, it received a down-thumb as the first response.

Awhile back, someone posted a question about bunnies. I responded with Anya's heavy-metal riff against bunnies from the Buffy musical episode, which I also find funny. It, too, received several down-thumbs.

The answer below mine in a recent question was from a woman named Nea, which was:

"A roving band of mathematicians - hilarious!
I had no idea mathematicians were nomadic ."

I found the answer slightly amusing, and certainly innocuous, but it, too, is receiving down-thumbs.

So, am I reasonable in assuming those are from people with the sense of humor of a moldy turnip, or is there some logic there?

dze - I don't sweat it. Down-thumbs mean about as much to me as "Best Answer", which is basically nothing at all. I am perplexed, though.

Red - well, basically, that's my question. How do you "disagree" with a joke?

OK - no additional insights, but some interesting answers. And I note that someone has carefully given every answer at least one thumbs-down. I suppose I should've expected that...

Thank you all.

There's no reason to it.

Sometimes I post a very honest, but quite offensive, opinion and get no thumbs-down. But try a pun or joke and the thumbs-down fairy is sure to visit!

I surely have surely taken a small smash and stayed away for some week by way of fact of petty issues like that. human beings come right here and ask advise or evaluations and whilst given what they ask for they initiate thumbs down by way of fact that is not what they prefer to pay attention. i in my opinion think of there are human beings purely sitting bored at their computers purely waiting to furnish thumbs down. i visit in easy terms supply thumbs down for stupid and stale subject rely solutions. purely watch what number thumbs down i'm getting. LOL

Not sure of why others thumb up or down, I try to do it based on the thought put into the answer and the content. I may thumbs down if the answer is not relative to the question, or is too "pat" or trite.

Mostly I won't thumbs down humor....

Edit:
Love that prayer! Just looked it up, think I'll have to memorize it.

I've never heard of Zelazny's agnostic prayer so I had to look for your answer to that other question. It's hilarious!

I don't know why people give some answers thumbs down. Anyway, I think you should post the agnostic prayer in your additional details so people can see it, because it's really funny.

If you look at answers you will see that some just go down the answers and down thumb everyone
Then you have the selective down thumber, anyone showing that he is disagreeing with the thumber's belief gets down thumbs, whatever the answer (obviously too much work to read the answers).
You get used to it after a while. Thumbs down in R&S are more about what belief you profess than about your answer.

yeah there are several turds on today i think.

i actually got a violation notice for jokingly answering a question that asked why atheists were really satanists. my answer? i made the joke that atheists liked to publicly kill squirrels and drink their blood. apparently an absurd question can't be answered with an absurd answer.

tough luck, maybe the stick-in-the-muds will leave soon

I think it's a power trip for some people to give thumbs-down. And, yes, it's also people who have had a humorectomy!

Ha, I can top that.

I got a thumps down when I put "answering . . ." while I composed an answer.

In other words I got a thumbs down before I had even given an answer!

LOL.

a little while ago, I told someone who asked a question on here that it might be a good idea if they talked to their doctor about the subject of the question...and I got a thumbs down for that.
Some people just love to do it.

It turns out that the Thumbs Down Fairy that your parents told you about when you were younger is real!
