No ultimate standard of morals. No uniform codes of conduct. Responsible to no one but SELF.
What pitiful state of affairs this world is headed to.
So much for 'free-thinkers".
Stay in the Word, brethren. This world is NOT our home. Stay firm in the Lord. There are people out there that are literally POSSESSED by the devil. Watch your family brethren. Satan is out there.

blank, GOD'S Way is not in the extreme in any way. His ways a perfect. You''re looking at the actions of your fellow man and ignorantly equating THAT with God. you're decieving yourself.

tai, Yes, unfortunately there has been and still are ignorant perverts. There are even ignorant and evil perverts that call themselves priests and pastors, and many of them decieve silly people to believe that they belong to Christ. (imagine that)

rlr,
Either you're lazy, ignorant, or stupid (or all of the above) if you think that because one "identifies" himself as a Christian that he MUST BE a Christian.

night, "You people" equate all those that you mention with the almighty God, not I. All who you have mentioned do NOT align with God's Word. you'd have to get IN the Word to know that. i invite you to do JUST THAT; get in the Word. And belive me, His Word HOLDS the high ground.

krak,
IF (and I mean if) you actually "were" a Christian, would be an admition to being as those that Peter spoke of in 2 Pter 2:22:
"It has happened to them according to the true proverb, "A DOG RETURNS TO ITS OWN VOMIT," and, "A sow, after washing, returns to wallowing in the mire."

Unfortunately, this type of offense is nothing new. People have done terrible things to other people since time began...
What may be new is the fact that these stories are now made public; rather than simply being ignored.
Which invites the question, what are we going to do about such attrocities? We can no longer claim ignorance of the fact that people do terrible things to one another. If we allow this type of thing to continue to happen, we now bare some responsibility.

God's word allows the owning of slaves, sex with slaves, and demanded the killing of thousands and thousands of innocent women and children in the old testament. In fact, God's warriors were commaded to cut unborn children from the womb.
More recently, the taking of land, raping of natives, killing of natives, robbery of natives was all done with God's word leading the way in the American west.
God's word is that he created every living thing that creepeth upon the earth, including the people that perform these atrocities. Do you really believe that a religion that would allow and encourage the slaughter of the Crusades, the slaughter of the Inquisition, the slaughter of native peoples, the transformation of humans into property, the lynching of blacks in the south, and the moral character of Jimmy Swaggart, and hateful tongue of Pat Robertson and the late Jerry Falwell would have some advantage over "free thinking"? Do you even know what free thinking is? Here's a definition:
: one who forms opinions on the basis of reason independently of authority; especially : one who doubts or denies religious dogma
Denies religious DOGMA, not God. There is a huge difference. Using reason to form your opinion isn't going to cause you to rape a 4 yr old. That takes a lack of reason. Dogma is what Mr. Jeffers is hopefully going to go to jail for soon.
Your religion does not hold the moral high ground...it reliquished it through it's behavior throughout history. What has happened to this little girl is tragic, not pitiful. Your belief that somehow using reason to form your opinions, instead of allowing someone else to form them for you, could cause you someone to do this is what's pitiful.

According to DOJ statistics 80% of people who are convicted of crimes have no religious beliefs prior to conviction. Atheist = no religious beliefs.
After getting to prison most of these identify with a religion so that they receive services or goods.
Even after "conversion" about 60% of convicts do not attend any religious studies or services regularly and only show up when there is something in it for them.
The odds are the person raping the girl in the video tape has no religious beliefs.
This has been going on for thousands of years and there is nothing new here.
What is interesting is that Fox News is the only major news network that seems to be working with the Nevada police. Putting an image of a child on television and telling the world, "this child has been raped" is a pretty drastic move.
The only reason, in my opinion, that police would do something like this is because they have reason to believe the girl may be dead.

Yet again, I must state... first, you don't know the belief system of the man in question. He could very well identify as Christian.
Second, the population of inmates in our US prisons is 75% Christian (and they are 90% of the population) while non-believers in prison runs around 0.2% (and they are less than 10% of the population), so YOU do the math on who is breaking more laws.
Third, those without religion have been proven to have higher "morals" than those with religion because they do what is right because it's the right thing to do, not because of promises of heaven or threats of hell. Non-believers ONLY HAVE the here and now and they make the most of it by living their lives free of the shame and repression that religion uses to force people to obey. We "obey" because we have no other choice.
So sure... you stay with the "Word..." as can be shown by the prison stats above, it's working so well so far.

There were people taking advantage of children way back then, too. There always has been. No such thing as the good ole days.
Is it disgusting? Yes. Is it the result of free-thinkers? Not one mention of atheists or free-thinkers in that article. Priests and pastors do this too.
I don't believe in no-things. Sorry.

Don't judge every non-Christian by the wackos out there. My father-in-law is a Christian and raped his daughters and one of my daughters. The only reason that he is still alive today is because he's not worth going to jail over.
Edit: Yes, he is a Christian. Christians do sin, you know?
