No, we just seem to forget the basics. For example, our pastor told us about this thing called "Jaywalking" that Jay Leno does on his Tonight Show. He goes around Los Angeles asking people everyday questions, and the answers that people gave would surprise you. One particular time he went around asking people to list one of the Ten Commandments. Not a single person knew even one of them. But there was one incorrect commandment that frequently popped up: "God helps those who helps themselves." Now, while that may be a decent philosophy, isn't it the least bit strange that people don't even know the Ten Commandments in a country that was founded on Catholic-based religion? I think so. My point is this: People need to realize that we've got the wrong concept about living in this country before it screws us a new one. And by a new one, I mean we deplete the planet's resources and nobody seems to give a rip about each other or God anymore. There's so many churches out there, and Christians have no excuse. That includes me, so I'm trying my best, too.

More lazy than anything else. If you have all the answers already, why bother reading? And I write that as a former Christian who grew up among Christians and observed them.
Really though, most people don't read or comprehend much. It's not just the Christians.

Actually if you think about it, it would seem the non-believers are the ones who need God (or someone) to help them read since none of them seem able to comprehend the Bible.

I confess, all my life I have asked God's help in discernment, understanding, wisdom, knowledge, etc.,. when it comes to His Bible...
....However, looks like it has done me well to do so, because I am not asking questions here, I am answering them.
Peace be with you :)
***LOL...just an added comment... I grew up rather poor, and had a thirst for reading even before I was old enough to be able to go to the Library...all that left was the mismatched set of musty, old, encyclepedia's, a dictionary an older sibling had bought at a school used books sale, old school books of my older siblings, the unused family Bible, and so on....so, God taught me to read, and, as recreation, I read the encyclepedia's, dictionaries, upper grade classbooks, etc. :)
It wasn't the words I had to ask the most help with, it was in understanding in what context they were meant to be in each particular verse. :)

As a Christian I would say YES, We can't even walk unless He is holding our hand. So we can't even read unless He gives us understanding. I myself want to have His understanding not my own. P.S. THANK before you react.
