If anything that isn't in a pattern happens to me, it causes me to burst into tears, then I have to press all 10 of my fingers together for 10 seconds. I am also overly obsessive about capitalizing even in IM. I don't want to talk to a doctor, or get meds. Is there anything that I can do to get myself better, without any outside help?

You really need to talk to a doctor before your symptoms get worse.

You said you didn't want to see a Dr. or take meds, but did you ever consider cognitive (talk) therapy with a licensed social worker?
They aren't doctors and you have more time to process your condition than 20 minuted with a PhD.
Really consider trying it. You may find some coping skills that will help you.
Also remember they all all human and there are really good therapist and really really bad ones.
If you get one you don't like, transfer to someone else.
Good Luck 2U!

yeah it sounds like u have OCD to me too. U need to get properly diagnosed by a liscensed psychologist. They will put you on meds that should help you.

I don't think u can do anything by yourself. OCD is a seriuos mental disorder and it's hard to break it on your own. If you burst into tears if you don't see a pattern, you need more help than u can give your own.

i think i have a little ocd (but don't we all)? If i get one hand wet, I HAVE to get the other wet as well. werid huh? But if i don't get it wet, i'll feel awquard for a little bit but then i'll get over it and forghet it.

If these issues are affecting your life, you could do a yahoo search on COPING WITH OCD, OCD SELF-HELP.

A therapist might be helpful -- they don't normally prescribe medications, and you DO NOT HAVE TO accept medications if you don't want to. It's your body and your life. But a therapist is a good outlet to help us learn some coping skills and how to go about recovering. Therapy works when we work it.

Take care.

Why even answer if you have no idea? :\

I have OCD, and I'm afraid that therapy/meds are, in conjunction, probably the best method of dealing with it.
The primary theme in therapy dealing with OCD is convincing yourself that your fears and your compulsions are irrational and working to prevent yourself from carrying out your rituals. This is VERY hard to do on your own, but it is possible.

You can talk to a health care professional, counselor, or social worker. Talking to someone can be very beneficial and does not require the use of medication.

Make a concerted effort to control yourself. Being aware is half the battle.
