That seems quite possible. Of course, if humanity discovers a large number of intelligent extraterrestrial races eventually, I would think that we would have to come to the assumption that we're weren't some kind of privileged creation that god spent all of his time and energy on. Any other belief would be insanely egotistical on the part of humans.

Of course, the ancient Hebrews met tons of other humans but they continued to believe that they were "god's chosen people" and somehow more important than all the rest of humanity put together. So, I guess being insanely egotistical is not terribly difficult for humans.

Maybe we weren't actually part of his master plan at all. Maybe we were some sort of accidental by-product that formed while he was creating an important part of his creation. That actually seems more likely to be true.

Then, of course, the possibility that no one created the universe is always an option as well.

perhaps. or we just have an over-inflated sense of ourselves in the grand scheme of things.
or god isn't a "he" and/or may not have a "plan."
the possibilities are endless, if you actually think about it.
