Today, I challenged alleninthehills to put up some proof in one of his questions about evolution. He took my challenge, and although we still disagree, I can appreciate his approach to the issue at hand.

I think it's pretty cool when two people who disagree on the main part of any topic, especially religion, can interact in a positive way. alleninthehills, you're okay in my book....even if you aren't an atheist (haha).

Do you have any such stories of positive inter-religion correspondence? ;o) I thought we could all use a little positive stuff for a change!

A most worthy debater.... even if your aren't a believer (haha). All of us have something to learn from each others views if we will just listen. We may never agree, but hey, we still can have a good debate on the issues we hold dear.

Yeah, it happens kind of a lot for me.
Usually with questions that involve Mormons. People get really upset when I say they are not Christians and I almost always get a hate type email from it. One time though we had a long conversation over a week or two and we both came out with a little more knowledge then when we started. Most people assume I am some crazy christian fundie and then when they learn I am agnostic and could care less they calm down a little. He is now one of my contacts and every once and a while when he learns something new he will email it to me.
but I hate when someone emails me just to rant and I can't email them back. It freggin drives me crazy. lol

In the past couple months, I've developed a few email correspondences, with only one being a fellow Christian. In a couple cases, we talk seriously about our beliefs (or lack) and theology and politics and the like, and with the rest we just goof around about silly things. I've even developed one rather close friendship to talk about life and personal issues with an atheist who hangs out here.

You're right, it's really nice to step away from this place once in awhile and realize it's not all petty bickering and silly stereotypes.

Yes I talk to people about certain issues related to religion and politics. I only have 2 rules, that they use real email, and the discussion be kept civil and respectful. Many people are incapable of doing either though and its too bad.

I talked to a guy for a while about objective morality. Im going to devote my myspace to it soon and he was looking forward to reading it and interacting with it.

Certainly.
Disagreements will always happen, over anything.
Given a chance to really talk about it, makes a big difference, respect wise.
I e-mailed one person back and forth for at least a week with two e-mails a day, at least.
Can't say who won, but it was fun just chatting about the subject.

Great question! Star for you! I am Jewish, and was in a serious relationship with a Muslim guy for about a year. He taught me so much, just as I taught him so much. Unfortunately, if I wanted my parents to stay sane, I had to end it. I have a lot of Muslim friends, and we always make fun of each other, but in a loving way. They are great people, and I love that we can be so close, despite the issues going on in the world. The world should be like that. We understand each other's points of view, and respect them.

"Positive" inter-religion correspondence? No. But I've had a number of zealots email me with "you're going to burn in Hell" type stuff.

I have had a few emails go back and fourth.

I would send contradictions and he would send apologetics. It was fruitless. I have only had two people that I had really good exchanges with.

Nope! LOL Unfortunately all i get are the fundie morons who can't spell or construct a complete sentence and they either want to kill me with their ju-jitsu skills or they want to insult me for believing what I believe. As if insulting me will help me see the light and convert me to the dark side.

I have never emailed anyone to continue a disagreement on here, though I have received a few!
