Lol.
I'm an atheist and Pagan, so I feel for you. Everytime I hear someone say "Atheist means no religion!" I want to smack them.
Just ignore the rabid ones, there are some great people on both sides.
Edit: GOD, well, I'm glad you know so much more about me than I do! I do not worship or believe in any gods, except in an archetypal way. That makes me atheistic. But I do have a religion, Paganism, beyond that. Ergo, I am an atheist AND a neo-Pagan.

Christians believe they have the only option because their faith, like many others, tells them that they have only one option. Their faith teaches it is exclusively correct, and all other religions are simply false.
Atheists believe there is nothing. Not that there is no Christianity, but that there is no God, no deity of any kind. Since most religions are based on the worship of some sort of god head or deity, an atheist is left with one option, that there is no deity at all.
Neither position leaves much room for other "philosophies and spiritualities" as you put it. I think you see the atheists ignore other philosophies because at least in this forum, there isn't a whole lot of non-christian discussion. If you had a lot of other religions in here saying that they had the only answer to everyone's personal issues, then you'd probably see a lot of comment from atheists about them. At least, that's what I think, from my observation.

I am an Atheist and I do not single out only Christians to answer their questions, if a Muslim, Jew, Buddhist, or the followers of any faith tries to convince me to believe what they believe, then they will get the same response as do the Christians, I am sorry Tawean, but an atheist does not believe in the existence of any god and therefore the reason to believe in a religion is not needed, you are in fact an Agnostic and only believe that nothing is known or likely to be known of anything beyond material things, you say you are a Pagan, a Pagan is a heathen, a heathen is only a person who is not Christian, Muslim or a Jew, and in any case if you think that paganism is a religion then you are not an atheist.
Chris.

As an atheist I apologise for leaving you out.
The reason it seems the way you perceive it is that the Christians are in the majority and are pushing their weight around. Obviously, for me, they are the most influential cult in the western world which has a great effect on all our lives, wether we want it or not.
That is the reason I debate and disagree with them.
If they were more like the honourable Buddhists they would pass by in peace.

I agree...to atheists...what's wrong with admitting that yeah...there must be a higher power...where did all of this come from....even if it were created by the big-bang of two rocks, or by evolution...who created the rocks or the apes?
and to Fundamentalist Christians, are you not strong enough in your faith to realize that God is bigger than the Bible, which was written by man. Why does science scare you so? Why do you put God in a box and only relegate him to what your mind can comprehend, based only on scripture...that while inpired by God, was written by man...who brought into their writings their own ideas, knowledge/education, customs and prejudices of the day into their writings.

While a lot of atheists do take potshots at Christians, the majority of Atheists I know just want Christians to acknowledge that there ARE other belief systems and to stop passing laws based on their biblical beliefs.
Atheists want to believe what they believe just like everyone else. It's the Christians who won't give.

Ahhh there's where you are wrong, atheists do not believe. But Christians think they're the only ones that matter.

While I tend to side with atheists in most debates, I think they are just as "wrong" in their thinking as Christians are. As soon as you think you know anything with complete certainty, that is the time to ask more questions.
