I didn't realize it was in the body of the transmission. Can the normal guy with some skills do it?

Not recommended.. as you have to be pretty clean inside the transmission and the wrong grease or wrong rag used to clean it can cause issues...

I've done it before and it's about 8-10 torx bolts if I remember and it just bolts in place, after draining the pan off of oil.. but for your sake, recommend a shop just incase it may be somethign else (as the wiring connecting the soleniods are fragile and can easily crack.... most people I know get the whole solenoid pack assy.. and it's not cheap)

Lefty loosey--righty tighty. It should be on the outside of the trans body.. just unscrew and screw in new one.
