someone said you have to be 21 to purchase but you can own it when you're 18.wtf??? is that like cigarettes where you cant buy it until you're 18 but can carry and smoke when you're 17??
by the way, I'm considering on purchasing a glock 17 or 18, you know what the price range is on that? and you need a permit to even buy regardless of age? thanks in advance

i've heard that the glock has a good clip length, fast firing, good strength, and doesnt jam easily. I don't really care for the firepower as long as it can kill i dont wanna blow craters like a desert eagle or magnums lol.
btw,.. wtf is up with buying a rifle at 18?? isnt that more dangerous than a handgun? yeah you can hide a handgun more but if u got a car, you can hide it.. it's a mass murder weapon in the wrong hands.

well you have to be 21(it sucks cuz its Fed law and im 19) but since you live in cali. i dont know if you can even get one regardless of age. you have to be rich or have really good political connections down there. i feel sorry for you, but if you come to idaho we'll go shooting anytime

Federal law requires you to be 21 to purchase a handgun, and federal law supersedes State law. Of course, some States will not care and will refer to their own gun laws, which sometimes require you to only be 18. Michigan is sort of one of these states, but purchase at 18 is only legal for private handgun sales.
Refer to the WikiPedia article for the facts to your specific State and make sure you know the purchase is legal (for example, by talking to the gun seller and others).
EDIT:
"wtf is up with buying a rifle at 18?? isnt that more dangerous than a handgun?" -- You can't conceal a rifle so someone at least has the chance to run away. There are *plenty* of people who have rifles to go hunting or shooting. A rifle is only dangerous in the hands of someone highly trained, highly motivated, and insane. The biggest irony is of course you say that you want to purchase a handgun ready to kill. That's not to say you will... Are you going to deny the rights of rifle owners, just as you have been denied the right to own a handgun?
You should really think about and realize that once that bullet leaves your barrel you can't get it back. Lastly, California, unfortunately, has restrictive gun laws (that have done little to nothing to curb its firearm violence), which include (but not limited to): police record of all handgun purchases from a dealer, registration of an "assault weapon", unlawful to possess a magazine capable of holding over 10 rounds, and you may not carry a loaded firearm in a county with over 200,000 peoples with the exception of hunting or being in a range.

San Francisco? Forget it man. You won't get a CCW permit, don't even count on it. SF only hands CCW's to the rich, famous and politicians like DiFi.... Now to answer your question you have to be 21 to purchase a firearm, though you can circumvent this if someone in your primary family owns one already and does PPT (private party transfer) to your name. That can be done and is 100% legal in California, but you cannot carry without a license. For Glocks (17) look to pay from low 500's to high 600's. You will need your HSC permit to buy a handgun in California (it's a an easy test) and you will need to provide proof of residency (like a gas bill, water bill, etc) just find a local ffl and ask them what you need. Also if you want more info visit this site. It will help you out a lot and keep you up to date with California's rather dubious laws. Also makes sure the pistol is on the Safety list (in California we have that unfortunately).

Federal Law states you must be 21 to buy a handgun from a federally licensed dealer or if you make a purchase through a private party that crosses state lines via a licensed gun dealer (You cannot sell a gun across state lines if you do not have a federal license). What federal law does not address (some will disagree with this) is private party purchases within a state and this is where state laws comes into effect. In other words, someone is selling you a gun from their own private collection. Since quite a few states allow 18 and older to own a handgun and do not prohibit 18 to 20 yr olds from purchasing, by that way, it is not illegal for those 18 to 20 yr olds to purchase a handgun from a private individual (selling from their own personal collection) in that state.

See the link...basically, you may not buy a handgun until you are 21....this does not mean that you can't OWN one.
Nonsensical, but laws often are.
Good luck with the Glock 18...the US isn't going to let a lot of these full-auto select fire handguns into civilian hands.

21 Years of age to buy a handgun (ANY). Under Federal law and mandates, you must be 21 to purchase any handgun. You didn't mention what state you live in so we can't guess. It really doesn't matter though, as the Federal law supercedes state law anyway. Yous state legislators are the ones responsible for laws concerning cigarettes and the restrictions involved, as well as establishing the legal drinking age of 21 years too.......
