Ok, i am planning on flying next month and the airline i have chosen does not fly nonstop to my final destination. I am just wondering, if when i get to the connecting airport if i will have to do anything with my checked in luggage, or if they automatically transfer it to my next flight. I am flying ATA.

The airline will take care of everything if you are flying on a connecting flight. The only thing you have to do is walk from one gate to another.

In most cases your bag can be tagged for your final destination and the airline will transfer your luggage from one aircraft to the other. All you will have to do is make sure you get yourself to your connecting flight. If you want confirmation on this, you should call the airline.

ALSO, if by chance you find that your flight is delayed, make sure you inform someone when you check in that you are connecting so they can make arrangements for you.

My flight destination is the USA with stop over and change plane in Taipei, Taiwan. My starting point is the Philippines. There is a 10 hour layover. I would like to use some of that time outside of the airport to meet a friend living in Taipei. Can I do that, What are the rules?

I am assuming you booked your multi-leg flight at the same time. The first flight you get on will see that you are going to transfer planes at the 2nd stop. They should automatically know this. When you first get to the airport to check your luggage, you should verify that you are changing planes before arriving to your final destination. They should know this, but verifying it is good......it will put your mind at ease.
ATA is an "ok" airline.......I haven't had problems with them but I know others who have. GOOD LUCK!

layover flight...

if your staying in overnight, you have to get you luggage and check in again the next day. but if you staying for just a couple of hours and you are a check thru passenger - check thru meaning from the time you have check-in you already have your boarding pass til your final destination. and you can see when you check-in your luggage the luggage tag placed at your bag is for final destination. then just get your luggage when you arrive in your final destination. when you arrive at your layover station all you have to do is go to transit and wait for your next flight.

When you book yourself in at the airport make sure you tell them that you want your luggage at the end of your flight destination.

oftentimes you will not see your baggage lower back until PHX . in case you have your boarding bypass for the 2d flight you will not might desire to study in lower back. you're reducing it sluggish close even though it somewhat is achievable in the experience that your first flight isn't not on time. on your first flight this variety please examine in with a HUMAN in EWR and that they might clarify the info to you.
