I really need a list of up to date medications for depression and a little background would help. Thanks!

Antidepressant medications include:
Selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs), such as Prozac, Zoloft, or Paxil.
Tricyclic and tetracyclic antidepressants, such as Elavil, Pamelor, or maprotiline.
Atypical antidepressants, such as Wellbutrin, Effexor, or Remeron.
Monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs), such as Nardil, Marplan, or Parnate.
If you need any further information, you can do a Yahoo Search for MEDICATIONS FOR DEPRESSION, or DEPRESSION TREATMENT.
If you are depressed, it's best to talk with your doctor about your symptoms. Sometimes a general practitioner can help, other times he will give you a referral....

Go to your nearest pharmacy and ask to see the physicians desk reference of medications. There should be a listing that will show them as a group.

Lexapro(best in my case, and lots of others as well)
Effexor(bad headaches with these, it dilates the pupils, and it is very hard to be in sunlight if you miss a dose)
Zoloft(Not sure)
Paxil, also Anxiety(bad headaches)
Zyprexa(weight gain)
Welbutrin(the happy pill b/c on the pill it looks like a smily face, and they also make some people have insomnia)
many more. Talk to your dr. for more info.
