Certainly some people will show only one or two of the symptoms on a list for any disorder.

Let's say for a particular disorder, there are listed 12 possible separate symptoms seen in people with a disorder. Dr.s look for the symptoms to be experienced as a set or group of, say atleast 5 or 6 of the 12 possible for the person to be found to have that specific disorder.

People who exhibit less than the 5 or 6 of the 12 symptoms
are not considered to display an adequate number of symptoms to have the disorder.

Yes. Autism has a wide range of symptoms. You can be severely autistic or just mildly. Hand flapping is an obvious sign. But just being quiet and antisocial or asocial is kind of typical of many young adults, lol. Rocking is another sign of autism... but generally there are also a lot of developmental drawbacks, too.

Do some more research, have the young adult seen by a specialist. Often, if it is mild autism, a change in diet can make a HUGE difference. Good luck!

It sounds like it may be aspergers syndrome. this usually only includes social problems, while autism can include develpomental problems and is more severe than aspegers. as with any mental disorder, you don't need to have all the symptoms to have the problem. best to talk to a doctor to get an "official" diagnosis.

Could be Asperger's Syndrome, maybe high-functioning autism. Lots of different characteristics, but not shared by all.
