"Among the greatest scientific geniuses of all times, Isaac Newton made major contributions to mathematics, optics, physics, and astronomy. He discovered the law of gravitation, formulated the basic laws of motion, developed calculus, and analyzed the nature of white light. Behind all his science was the conviction that God made the universe with a mathematical structure and He gifted human beings' minds to understand that structure.

The very orderliness and design of the universe spoke of God's awesome majesty and wisdom. The design of the eye required a perfect understanding of optics, and the design of the ear required a knowledge of sounds. The solar system itself could not have been produced by blind chance or fortuitous causes but only by a cause "very well skilled in mechanics and geometry." Gravity itself was an active principle God used to impose order on the world. Seeking to understand God's methods, Newton developed formulas for specific phenomena such as ocean tides, paths of comets, and the succession of the equinoxes."

And yet.....if he lived today and attempted to speak to those who don't believe in a Creator....he'd probably be laughed off the public stage. Let's face it: people don't WANT to believe, no matter who or what attempts to convince them.

Isaac Newton was known as a gifted mathematician and scientist. His philosophical, theologian, or anthropological opinions wouldn't necessarily be all that great. The mistake people make is to assume that someone who knows a lot about one area of knowledge is in expert in every subject.

Anyone who got decent grades in high school biology knows more about biology and evolution than Newton ever did. Many of the questions he would have had about life and the universe have already been answered by science.

I think Issac Newton, when exposed to the vast amount of scientific knowledge accumulated since his time, would find the idea of religion to be untenable and no longer relevant.

Atheist would find ways to ignore him, becuase he believes in a creator and thats unthinkable to them.. every time an Atheist finds out that science laws bring them to chapter one of genisis, the phrase "back to the drawing board" becomes popular! Praise the Lord...

Maybe, just maybe he'd help the scientific minds rethink the theories they hold so dear.

Furiousblue: Except he wasn't referring to religion... he was referring to the wonders of creation as he observed them.
