Why do such things like natural selection and survival of the fittest happen? Who put such things into motion? It couldn't have just happened.

Mutation, genetic drift, and gene flow are how populations change. Survival of the fittest (natural selection) is an obvious mechanism as to how these changes will shape a species. Natural selection doesn't need to be set into motion. As soon as an individual dies due to any type of environmental influence, it is happening.

There is not a "who" put evolution into motion. It just happens. Some animals used to have all kinds of toes, but over time, since they didn't need them anymore, they stopped having them. It's not because someone chopped them off, it's just development. Cars and machines, etc. get improved a little bit each year, in response to demand for better function. That's evolution too. I can never be convinced that some pretend higher power caused animals to have fewer toes.

Why couldn't it just have happened? Look at the ecosystems on this planet. Each ecosystem is a little world that is part of a greater ecosystem. This planet is part of an even greater ecosystem on an intergalactical level. Everything is connected and in constant interaction. It can be hard to visualise and/or understand, but it is there none the less.

It's called change. We don't claim to have an exact answer because knowing such a question is beyond us. That's why we call you guys who think you know everything to be a bit ignorant. You can't admit you don't know everything.

Why does it happen? Why anything. Why does God exist? Why does God even want to do that, do you know? Can you answer your own question?

Actually, natural selection and survival of the fittest DOES just happen. That's the whole concept. Those who can't adapt or can't survive die, leaving the strongest alive to continue the species.

Christians: what created your god?
He can't have just happened? How could he be put into motion?

Why not ask this (and your other questions) in the Biology section where you will get a real answer and not some smart comment to support your already held beliefs?

lol...the environment itself does it. girraffes have longer necks because their ancestors that did not have longer necks couldn't feed off the high trees as well and died off, for example. pick up a biology book before throwing out your attempts at cleverness.

Mutation causes the change.

Making babies before you get eaten spreads the change.

It's really simple.
