My g/f has one tattoo on her back and another on her leg. She likes wearing short skirts with halters to show them off in the warm weather. It's a real turn on to me but friends tell me it's not a womanly thing to do. I say if you're proud of them don't be afraid to show it. The outfits are sexy but not slutty.

Oh No!
How dare a woman act unladylike in this day and age.
Your friends are jerks.
Smack them.

I wear my tattoos with pride, but I don't go out of my way to show them off. 3 of them are usually at least partly visible (2 chest, 1 wrist). I wear tank tops a lot, and scoop necked shirts that show of my chest tatts, but I've just always liked shirts that style, and I've been wearing them since before I got my tattoos.

A "womanly" thing? First of all, I think it's a bit old-fashioned for your friends to insinuate that only men should show off tattoos.

And any time you go against the grain, you're going to have people nagging you. Doesn't mean you should go out of your way to accomodate them. If your girlfriend and you are both happy, then forget what they say! In this case, a good friend should accept your decision, whether or not they agree with it.

Where exactly is she putting it? I just started a chest piece and it is shown with most tank tops, v - neck shirts, etc. It depends on where her placement is. I don't go flashing my boobs, but I also won't wear clothing to hide it unless it's appropriate. Did you ever think maybe she's getting the tattoo for your eyes only? You would know her best, but if your wife is looking for a reason to go around and flash her breasts it sounds like you two have issues deeper than a tattoo. Good luck!

Its a personal preference---there will always be people who don't agree with what you say, do, wear, or how you act-----you just have to be happy with yourself, or in this case, as long as she's happy with the way she looks and presents herself, those other peoples' opinions shouldn't matter.

Since I got my tattoo, I've been purposely wearing clothing to display it because its an artistic expression of me. Tattoos have no bias toward gender so its incorrect to say that a tattoo is not "womanly." Even though traditionally men got tattoos (in prison at first), its very common and accepted for both genders to decorate themselves and display their art. Don't worry about what others think----if you two like it, the do it.

There's nothing wrong with her being honest to herself and if you are happy with it, that's just great! Yeah some people are uptight but it's really not their business, isn't it? If they are your friends, they should really be happy of the fact that you are happy. At least I think so!

I say go for it and show off her tattoo! If no one sees those tattoos, why did she pay lot of money and be in pain to get them? It would be meaningless otherwise!

Sure, why not. About 40% of the people who want tattoos are female, and social norms have changed drasticly in the last ten years. Usually, the women want their pieces semi-private, as opposed to men, who tend to want more of a display. Also, it depends very much on the kind of tattoo, that makes folks approve or disapprove of them. Most people nowdays know at least one or two tattooed friends. It has less stigma now than it used to.

I think its great she wants to show them off. I have four tattoos and I love to wear tanks and have people notice my tattoos. I bet if your friends had tattoos they would want to show them off as well. Ask them what they mean by a "womanly thing to do" we are now in the year 2007 not 1950.

There is a segment of our population that views tattoos as low class and trashy. Perhaps this is why some folks you know don't think it is a good idea for her to display them.

I say, why the hell not? She's a free woman. I'm glad she proudly displays her body art. I think it's great that she does it in a sexy manner instead of a slutty manner, and I think you're a wonderful boyfriend for supporting her in her decision. And for thinking she's sexy!

PS - If she does it in a sexy way, your friends are probably just jealous. Why should it matter to them anyway? It's not their body, nor their girlfriend.

I think that if she is not being trashy about it then no harm done. Where a girl gets a tattoo has no bearing on if she is promiscuous or not. Sexy is fine but as she gets older she may find that sexy now may not be sexy later and as long as that is kept in check, show em off!
