I came here over a year ago under a different account, as a nasty little troll named Divine. I had only one intent --wreak havoc.

Then I met Debra M. Her gentleness and grace when I trolled her questions, and the serene manner in which she answered mine, humiliated me beyond belief. I felt such shame.

I changed in a big way, from a cynical, unlikable person into someone with a lot more tolerance and acceptance. The details are personal, but without admonishing me in anyway, Debra changed me for the better.

We don't understand it either. Especially when you try to convince impressionable young children in their own schools. Most atheists have no problem with others being people of faith per se, it's the evangelizing that hacks us off. If a person chooses a religious path once they are old enough to understand what the concept of a 'God' is all about then i'm happy for them to do so. To try and get 'em when they're young is almost unforgivable though. And NOT very 'Christian' from an ethical and moral standpoint.

No, sadly nothing has. Electronic dialogue is a poor method in the first place and in the second, the profound is usually hard to find amidst the clutter of what you call "idiots" responses.

I did, however get pointed to a site that strengthened my athiest viewpoint although I would still consider that I believe in a God, just not necessarily the way Christianity defines it.

The site I was pointed to on this Y!A is shown below but beaware it is anti-Christian, not in a slanderous way but still will likely turn off Christians. But, from an intellectual point of view, I think Christians should be able to read and have an opinion on the "proofs" presented.

No, I am actually truly disturbed at the hateful words I've seen from some of the Christians here. I get hate mail daily. In fact I just got one a minute ago.

I don't hate Christians at all - my parents and some of my friends are Christians. I used to be one. I just want other people to THINK seriously about their religion and not get so offended when I ask them questions. But I get attacked for it.

EDIT: To be fair, some of the Christians here can be really cool and open-minded. But, sadly, they're far and few between.

Ah, I'm a Christian with an already soft heart for God.

Good question, though. I've often wondered the same thing,

In R&A, it would probably be tough to reach somebody unless they were actually seeking God, anyway. Because of all the sites I've ever visited, the Q&A of Yahoo Answers, in religion, it has been the most versatile of good vs. evil.

I pray one person tells you their heart was softened. And they truly mean it.

Good luck, and God bless.

Just because someone doesn't believe in god, doesn't mean they don't have a "soft heart." I'm agnostic but I lead a much cleaner, more open-minded life than a lot of Christians I know.

Nothing on here has made me suddenly believe in god. If I read something that did, I don't think I could become Christian. I just don't agree with a lot of stuff within the Christian religion.

But, that's not to say I'm AGAINST religion or Christianity. Just some people who choose to represent it.

...I suffered 4 big losses in the span of about 5 years...it started with losing my step son-in-law in a plane crash, followed by the lingering death of my father-in-law to cancer, then the somewhat sudden death of my husband who died of cancer...he had actually been on life support after taking a turn for the worse during a medical diagnostic procedure...I had to make the decision to "pull the plug"...then I lost my mother shortly after that...I lost my strength to believe in much of anything after all this...I was numb and couldn't take it all in, so I became an "island" and a rock...for an island never cries and a rock feels no pain...it was, by chance, that I stumbled across the R&S section on Y/A...when I first started coming here, I was unsure of many things and was literally frightened away by some of the atheists comments...you see, I still believed in God, but I needed answers and desperately needed healing...then I ran into Father K and inteleyes, and others...it was because of them, in particular, that I found a reason to keep coming back...they both helped me "see" and understand that God is not out to hurt , but rather, God actually held me up during these very sad times...God has, with Him, each of my beloved family members who passed away, just as he has me and that He was a loving enough God to let me curse Him for my pain even though He was not the cause for it...what a Great and Mighty God we have and I give much of the credit for re-learning this to the "Special" R&S members who truly make a difference...they were and still are a God sent !

I look at the questions posed by the authors of each question, then I scroll through the answers. Most, if not all, are really enlightening in their answers. Sometimes I am saddened by the boxes some readers put others in. But I understand. Some people make us get on our guard, and we try to fend off those who would offend us before they get a chance to.

This may be off the topic, but my answer is meant to educate others , hopefully. To help them to realize that we all belong to the human race, and we should look kindly at all people, even those we dont understand. I pray each day for the guidance that I need. I am thankful for Yahoo questions and answers. It helps me to understand myself better also. Thanks for the questions. and the answers.

No. I just have a mental block where I have never been able to grasp history, philosophy, religion, mythology. I did much better in science, as it was real and tangible. I do have a very soft heart, but it has nothing to do with religion.

there was a weird and kinda sick woman who was ranting about wanting a late-term abortion. she/he posted in a number of places on ya.

almost to a person, r&s was unified in their horror of her story and the answers showed that we are more alike than we are different...

it was amazing and it's what keeps me stumbling through here now and again...you never know what someone will say that will stick in your mind.

also for the great one-liners and quotes:

chuck norris has only two speeds...walk and kill.
chuck norris has tears that can cure cancer...too bad he never cries.
cry me a river, build a bridge, and then get over it.
why was Jesus born in a manger? because joseph and mary belonged to an HMO.
