Me2: Have you considered that if it were that easy for people to simply pay to come an work here legally that they would have already done that. Do get a work visa for jobs that are not doctors, lawyer and such they have to be sponsored first and it takes years not to mention thousands to get that done. So, again if it would be so easy to just apply and pay for the visa in a reasonable amount of time then why do we have illegals in the first place?

Won't do anything, but help America get back in right direction, and give Americans their jobs back.

I think that any job that an illegal immigrant is doing can be done by someone who is hungry enough, or has enough children to care for.

I think that people who make these excuses don't see the people who are NOT illegal immigrants who are doing the crap jobs. There are plenty of African American, Italian American, Mexican American, Caucasion American people picking up trash, cleaning out sewers, etc.

If we would show more appreciation to those who do the crap jobs, maybe we'd not have the problem with finding people to do them. The societal stigma of having a "chimney sweep" job is so terrible to see. I mean really, we sneer up our noses at those who do really hard, disgusting work, instead of seeing their value. Really, if you would not do it, but you know it needs to be done, should you not be thankful that there is someone willing to do it?

Only difference between illegals and Americans doing the same job is that the illegals don't get paid as much, they complain less for fear of deportation, and sometimes don't even understand the insults being thrown their way.

It won't hurt the economy if illegals left. It would improve it. There would be less demand, so the prices would go down because supply would go up. We would have fewer people on the roads, fewer people eating the food, buying the gasoline.... It would help the economy if they were all to go home. Wouldn't it be nice to spend 1.50 a gallon for gas again?

It may hurt the businesses who have depended on supporting the desires of the illegals. It will only be an initial inconvenience. Once the legal citizens and immigrants start having the opportunity to build their businesses it will turn back around. Not all business can show profit each month or year. This is normal. If I lived there I would certainly buy up one of the failed businesses and turn it into something that the legal citizens could use.

I always knew it would hurt the economy if the illegal immigrants left. Now, I think this story is a bit of an exaggeration of what the long term effects would be. Any dramatic change to the economy like a big drop in population will have some short term negative consequences that don't last into the long term as the economy takes some time to find a new equilibrium, but it's clear that the American infrastructure has already adjusted itself to having these extra workers and consumers around, so there will be unused infrastructure if they all leave.

Think about it this way.

An american unemployed can make xxx without working. Actually, it can make more because there's a lot to do when you have the time and you're being paid by the socialist system.
If the jobs that the immigrants are doing don't pay more than xxx, who's going to take them?
And if nobody does, does it hurt the economy?

Look for a news bit sometime during the last month about american farmers moving their operations to Mexico.

Yes, I do believe there would be temporary hardships. We are talking about the long term benefits.

Illegal immigrants did severe damages to our small businesses. LA times did an article about how it destroyed African American small business owners. Any sudden change would cause a lost of certain businesses. Note that the business your article quotes stated that the business catering to immigrants saw the drop. It's what would happen in thelong term. More resources for those who are here legally. higher pay and better work conditions for those who are legal.

I wonder why the news paper didn't interview the parents and teacher's and asked how life with smaller classes felt? It drives me crazy to see these towns not hold their ground. I understand it costs a lot to fight legal issues, but other than that, I feel they gave in. Too bad. And to the victory dancer's, did you notice the paper stated the town basically shriveled in population. Gee, I guess the town didn't realize just how many ILLEGALS they had. A good lesson for towns that know they now have only a few ILLEGALS. Enact those bans on ILLEGALS before you are over run by them.

Only for a short time, if we need workers, people all over the world would pay to come and work here. The NY times as is most of CNN except Lou Dobs are cheer leaders for the illegals. Just because some cities are not growing or declining that's no reason to think that illegal should repopulate those cities. Cities and towns have grown and declined for years, illegal immigration is not the answer. Most illegals just went a down the road and over populated someone else's town

Because they are CRIMINALS. What is it about you people that makes you so ignorant? I think the entire world would benefit from illegals either staying home or coming over legally.
