Well a huge advantage would be that you're able to make some money to help you out at university and also you can have a think about what you want to study as well rather than just jumping straight into uni without really thinking about what you want to do.
A disadvantage would be that you'd be behind your age group, although people do go at all ages so that's not that big of a disadvantage really.

When I was in college, the companies would hire you on a Co-op program. You worked a semester, then you went to college for a semester.
The money you earned helped pay your tuition, and you got real life experience as opposed to textbook knowledge.
If your university has a program, you should consider it as the experience you gain will make you $$$$ in the future as a graduate.

You are more likely to get hired after you graduate. Industry experience is worth a lot more than just getting your diploma.
