My boyfriend is bipolar and he gets a manic episode about every 6 months. They last for 2 to 3 weeks, so you can say that he is temporarily insane about 6 weeks during the year. He is real good about taking his meds, but they don't prevent the manic episodes. That's the sad part about the illness.

yes i have bipolar and i usually only get manic during the summer

Yes, I've actually seen it for up to a year. But during that year they are mostly in a depressive state. Remember bipolar disorder is about fluctuating between two extreme mood states.
