I have a 15 month old, and we've been using swim diapers all summer. I just don't see how they work. Whenever we got out of the pool water would run out of the swim diaper. The entire crotch would be soaked with what I presume is just pool water. Are swim diapers made to make parents and other pool patrons feel better about swimming with pee, or do they REALLY work?

Swim diapers only hold in the poo the pee just goes out into the water, they are made so the child can be comfortable swimming, have you ever seen a wet diaper? When I see kids in the pool with swim diapers I think to myself well now I am a distant aunt because I now have your DNA on me! Most smart people know that it is strictly for comfort and so that there is no poo floating in the pool. If money is an issue (they are kinda pricey) and they will not be wearing one make sure to have your child go poop before you go to the pool, the pee will end up in the water either way.

Pool diapers are ONLY meant to contain poop. They do nothing about pee. That's why some swimsuits can also be classified as "swim diapers" if they have the appropriate rubbery lining.

Have you ever tried to put a regular diaper in the pool? They soak up tons of water, weigh ten pounds, and sag down on the child so much they want to fall off! Swim diapers prevent this mess. I think the inside of the diaper does work pretty well to absorb the body fluids as long as it's not too much. And it fits to the child to not allow poop to leak out like it would if it were a regular diaper in the water. So it's really the best solution, because if you put a child who is not potty trained in a regular swimsuit, then that woud not hold anything and it would definately leak into the pool!

The only thing swim diapers really do it catch poop! They do not absorb urine hell they dont even absorb pool water but if youve ever let your baby play in a pool with his regular diaper on and they bogged him down or fell apart you'd use swim diapers too. I used them this summer with my son. Also know as much clorine that is used in public pools as well as private pools a little pee will not hurt you.

I have had the same impression. I think it's not so much as to hold the pee in, but keep the diaper on. Have you noticed that swim diapers are almost always pull-up, not velcro? Also, it does keep the poop in. But I wish they would find a way to keep it relatively dry inside.

I never thought they worked either, just a waste of money.
