Childlike is the only way. Adult faith is weak at best and down right non existent most of the time †
I have heard Christians criticize new believers for being so "on fire for GOD". So I guess when you become wretched cold hard hearted zealots, you have arrived?

Childlike faith should grow into mature, adult faith.

Childlike shouldn't mean blind.
I think it means innocent and pure faith.
Children are always curious and ask a lot of questions. I think that kind of faith is key to growth.
Most adults think they know everything so they stop being curious.
So I'll go with childlike.

Of the two, an adult faith, based on personal research and in depth contemplation, is preferable.

Blind faith is, by definition, childish. What is best is an adult capacity to reason and to think logically about reality.
