The only way this is affecting my job is my attendance. When I'm there I get the job done and more that's why they called me back for the second time. I f I let them now about my condition is there anything I can do legally if they let me go? Like I said I do a good job and have a good review. I fear financial issues if I lose this job. My boses have been very understanding and the hours here are very flexible but now I'm head of my own department. I have everything under control at the moment. Just need some advice from someone who knows how it is to be in this situation.

Go get some meds to help. Dont tell your co-workers they will just gossip behind your back and call you the "Crazy" lady"

I suffered from depression I was afraid that I would lose my job , but I had to tell my managers I was so bad I had anxiety attacks at my register ,the stress made it worst .My manager wouldn't take me off the register and I kept on having attacks.I didn't like the feeling I really thought I was going to die, It was so bad I decided to talk to the district manager .He told the managers right away to keep me off the register and I was moved to the floor. I did a lot better It wasn't stressful on the floor and my body was able to calm down. I think you should share with your employer so that he is aware depression can have so many different effects on you and that way if something happens to you he would have some kind of an idea how to help you and may be he can arrange lighter duties until you have control of the depression. If they fire you for having depression I'm sure theirs some kind of legal action that you could take.

I'm sorry to hear about your problem, I have similar condition, but what I had learnt from my previous employment that never share your illness to your employer or co-workers, because it would affect your job more, because they would think, since you are suffering depression or any other sort of illness, so you are not capable to do things the way you are supposed to do even you are doing things the way you are assigned to do. Most of the time, other employeeds would talk about you behind your back and stuff like that. I'm not saying, everybody would do this, but this is just my suggestion.

Other suggestion I would give you, if you are suffering from depression and it is affecting your work, you may like to discuss this to your doctor, he may prescribe you some medication. Also you may like to request your doctor for the sick leave. I'm in Canada, here you can go on sick leavfe for up to 17 weeks with the employment insurance benefits. Those 17 weeks are enough to give anyone to deal with her/his illness.

You may also think, what could be the possible cause of your depression, may be it's your job which is giving you tremendous amount of pressure to be depress. If that is a case, you may like to start looking another job or with your doctor not indicating this job is not suitable for you, you may collect employment benefits for few months.

things of this issue can make us very uncomfortable and i dont think that informing your boss would be good thing at the moment. i would however inform him that you have been under a bit of added stress lately and will be working on the quality of your work performance. dont let go of too much info that may end up in your employment record and cause you problems later if ever reviewed. see your doctor and get some help.....than get some work done.

If you have an understanding employer, then it won't hurt - if not, then it could. I would see your doctor and have him give you a medical note stating your condition first, then speak to your employer about some time off, if that is what you need. With the medical note as a back up, you could tell them you will be asking your doctor for a sick note.

Share it with your doctor ONLY... depression is common and it is treatable.

Your medical issues are confidential, and your records will go through the employer's insurance company...

If someone in the workplace handles these matters, they are not permitted to discuss your medical issues with anyone else.

Depression is a medical problem, just like any other, and it's YOUR business...

I hope you start feeling better and the treatment you are receiving works well, hon. take care.

Hun, be careful on what information you disclose at your workplace, if you have real friends then it's fine if you confide in them but other wise, it will backfire at you, you are walking on eggshell; if your depression or if you take any meds affect your performance, talk with your boss regarding your health situation, dont tell everything just that for certain health issues you react and/or act in certain ways, and be clear to him/her that thats private information, that you are just discussing it with him/her to keep her/him posted on any changes that might affect your work a little bit; good luck, and seek help if you are not getting any.

Contact the human resourses personnel in your company. Just tell them you are having a hard time right now and would like to know if there are programs in place to help you.
If you work for a small company then you probably need to have a conversation with your boss 1-on-1. Let him/her know factors not related to work are causing you a hard time at work.

I would share it with your boss. They might even offer help for you or give you time off. I had to take 6 weeks off before. If you have a good boss and work for a good company they will understand and it will be better for you. This way they don't think you slacking. If they don't understand get a Dr. to wright a medical note to advise them and give you time if you need it.Good luck.

Definitely not. Employers frown on mental afflictions like depression. It could hurt your future chance of advancement in the company. It's none of their business. Just be discrete while going to your appointments. The less they know, the better. That's been my experience.
