is that a tacit admission that you consider atheism a religion?

Kailee: a bad analogy.
Many atheists cap the word on purpose.

It's not proper English to cap "Atheist" except at the beginning of a sentece or as a part of a proper noun, people.
I hope I have made that point to you, at least.

The only time I cap atheism is at the beginning of a sentence. Provide evidence to back your claim, please?

Maybe because theist is pronounced differently to atheist. The atheist makes the ei sound like "e" instead of "a" but I'm not totally confident that that is the reason. Perhaps it is true, as creatrix suggests, that atheists are for some reason better spellers. If it were it would certainly result in atheist being spelt incorrectly more often as atheists use the word theist most often while everyone uses the word atheist.

You are correct. I never capitalize atheism (except at the beginning of a sentence) for just that reason and have corrected many believers who persistently make that error. Most experienced atheists know better.

Here's a couple of common of thoroughly hackneyed expressions that get a lot of play, here in R&S:

"Claiming atheism is a religion is like claiming bald is a hair color."

"Atheism is a religion like not collecting stamps is a hobby."

...don't know where they originally came from.

Not Really Because some people Talk Like this in Which they Randomly capitalize words they Feel like for Emphasize to get their Point across.

Edit: Also, trying reverse psychology on yourself before you post questions like these can help you determine the logic of the question.

IE: "Christians, when you lowercase the words 'god' and 'jesus' is that a tacit admission that you consider these people didn't really exist?"

I don't capitalize those words.

I can't speak for other atheists, of course. For many, atheism occupies the same place in their lives that religion does for other people. For most, like myself, it is the result of their spiritual beliefs, not the basis for them.

For me it's a tacit admission that it's the first word of a sentence, or a part of the name of an organization.

By your logic, of course, Realtor is a religion.

Just because we're atheists doesn't mean we get together and hold meetings on the capitalization of words. People with poor grammar can be found in all walks of life, regardless of theism.

I do not capitalize the words 'atheism' and 'atheist' because atheism is in fact not a religion.

I think it's more of a proper grammar thing. No one in their right mind thinks Atheism is a religion.
