I just adopted a 4-month-old female lynx point. Is it true that Siamese cats tend to climb more than other cats? I heard this from my mother.

Edit: I should add that I haven't taken her home yet. She's coming home Friday, when I pay my landlord's pet fee.

Edit2: That's why I'm asking the question here, instead of watching to see if she climbs. She's not here yet. lol. (I'm making all kinds of sense this morning.)

ive never heard that before! my mom has grown up with siamese, and we got our first about 7 years ago, she does seem to like higher places, as shell sit on the top of the door, on top of high dressers, etc all the time. one common characteristic of siamese however, is "talking". they are very vocal cats, ive never once met a siamese who wasnt noisy! not in a bad way though. congrats on your new addition, siamese cats are tons of fun!

Well I have a tabby so this is observation** Tabby* -Really Playful -Sweet -Very energetic -tend to remain active & Playful -Some can be lap cats, depends on the mood their in (: Siamese* Some reasons to own a Siamese cat as a pet is that they are very loving and affectionate, often described as extroverts for showing their feelings and enjoyment of human company. But, they are often illustrated as evil and aggressive. This is not entirely incorrect, because some Siamese cats are very hard to handle. There are cases when Siamese cats are so sensitive that they cannot adapt to human company, therefore behaving aggressively. This would be a main disadvantage to owning a Siamese cat. <--Copied that for you :)

Congrats on your new addition to your home. All cats love to have a hidding spot that is high. I have had several different breeds within my lifetime and no one seems to climb higher then the other.
I am impressed that you are paying a landlord fee in order to have the little one in your home. Most people don't do even check to see if they can have a pet. Nor have I heard of a landlord being able to do this. Different laws for different areas I guess.

Is it REALLY a siamese or just a lynx point? Honestly most cats people claim are siamese or siamese crosses are just colored that way.

http://www.cfainc.org/breeds/profiles/siamese.html

The above link is a REAL siamese-notice the small angular head and they are usually lanky.

IF its not a true siamese and just colored that way its no different then any other cat. The lynx, lilac, seal, whatever, points are just a color as is tabby, black, gray, white. VERY pretty but often people claim them to be a seperate breed.

IF it IS a true siamese I have no idea about the climbing thing. haha.

Good luck and congrats on adopting. :)

I had a Siamese that liked to sit on my shoulder when she was a kitten. She would climb up to my shoulder where ever I was standing or sitting. The Veterinarian told me that this was a trait of Siamese. So I would say they like to climb more than other cats.

I used to have 2 siamese cats and they climbed a lot. Just get them one of those tall cat climbing thingies they have at petco. I don't think they climb so much it would be annoying, if that's what you are concerned about. It's actually quite fun to watch.

You're making sense, just sounds like you're excited.Yes, my cat had a couple of Siameses Cats and they indeed like to climb and are very good at it.They can jump on th the top of cabinets and tend to lay on top of the door , when its open of course. Most importantly, they are very intelligent Good Luck!!

I have two Siamese cats and one like to ride around on my shoulder and the other likes to sit on top of the cabinets. I don't think it's so much they like to climb as they just like to be in high places, to look down on the rest of the world. :)

'Meezers are wonderful animals. They bond with one person and will be your friend for life. They are fur covered children.

They're active, they're limber, they love to get up on top of things. They talk and they investigate everything (sometimes they've been called monkey cats). But each Siamese is different and you could have one that's not as active as most.

They're very smart so train them with positive reinforcement, you get better results than negative reinforcement.
