Hello Grim Jack.
My thoughts are exactly the same as those of primoa1970. Gazoo, you were doing OK until the brainwashing thing. Gorgeoustxwoman3, publicly putting down the beliefs of others is not only un-cool, it's a turn off of any "gorgeous-ness", real or self proclaimed, in TX. or anywhere else. Christianity, like all religions striving to guide Humanity to God and a higher level of goodness, peace, enlightenment, spirituality, oneness with the universe, etc. is no different than anything else you can name. There has been a great deal of both good and evil done in it's name. However, if you put it to an objective "actions speak louder than words test", the goodness done by the religions of the world far outweigh the bad.
You may quote references to religious wars and crusades, inquisitions, jihads, evangelical frauds and hypocrisy, criminal acts by clergy, suicides and racial hatred, many done in the name of God and/or religion throughout history. It will not change the good they have done and still are doing.
Weigh out the works of charity, locally and internationally done in God's name every day. Consider the starving, infirm, elderly and destitute being fed. Or those being housed and/or clothed who would otherwise go without. Men, woman and sometimes children in hospitals, hospices, prisons, mental and other institutions who receive comfort, companionship, financial help and much more, who in many cases either have no one else or have been abandoned by family and/or friends. It's easy to stand and proclaim the deficiencies of religion but when was the last time you volunteered to read to the elderly or ill, deliver food or other necessities to people in need.
Other than salving your conscience throwing a few pocket coins into a bucket outside of Wal-Mart after spending ump-teen dollars on gifts for yourself and other "fortunates", how much "real money" or time have you given to help the "unfortunates".
The religions and religious oriented institutions of the world, take up this duty 24-7, year in/year out. Christians, Catholics, Protestants, Muslims, Buddhists, Hindu and a great many non-secular but still charitable and/or religious oriented organizations such as the Red Cross, Red Crescent, Salvation Army etc. are there, always. Every one of them have been the subject of some type of scandal, wrong-doing or crime. But the good done by them far out weighs the individual failings of some of their representatives. It's easy to throw stones at easy targets, especially in attempts to justify your own failings. Can you ask yourself, "what good have I done lately?" and feel good about the true answer.
Coming from a non-religious family or a family of religious excesses is no reason to desert religion (though it is certainly your personal right) and it is absolutely no reason to degrade something which is so meaningful to so many and has over all done so much good in the world.
Big business and our own government, useing excessive and at times criminal means, caused a great deal of suffering and even death during the early days of the organized labor movement. Do you refuse to make use of automobiles or any of the thousands of other manurfactured goods available to us today because of these past "sins of the fathers".
And would you prefer a God (Biblegod?) who would hobble you and force you and others in turn to do only good instead of giving us the freedom to be humans, experiencing life and learning as we go.
Regards,
Lenny.

if you were raised in a Christian home, embraced and then left the Christian faith and are not yet dead, you are a prodigal. it's just a matter of time before you stop rebelling and embrace God again...
and do you hate your parents? do they disgust you?
if they were not abusive, drug-ingesting, morons - then you have the seeds of faith in your heart and whether you give God the credit or not, you are likely living a Christian lifestyle for the most part.

You obviously weren't raised in a good Christian home I presume.
And by the way, this is not a guarantee for all children who are raised by Christians.
Christianity is NOT hereditary.......it is the responsibility of the individual.
I pray for you daily........
