Bouncing back.

It's a basketball/sports reference -- like when a shot/throw is "missed" and bounds off & from the hoop/backboard... the person catching that basketball has "rebounded" it.

So, dating-wise.. if you're now newly single -- you're rebounding from the missed, or messed, love-relationship. It's a term, used mainly because we assume that the newly single person is WEAKER emotionally, and being on the rebound can use a interim person or actually be used by some new person taking advantage of their current mood/state.

Guys know that a women would probably be more available for one-night stands, or meaningless short-term relationships... many guys are sort of predatory, in this fashion... and the weakness in a woman + alchohol = happy men (and women that look for a rationalization as to what just happened, as they drive home early the next am).

A rebound is someone you use to get over your feelings for the last person you were with. Say that your current partner just got out of a relationship. They might still have feelings for the ex and might use you to get over that. Therefor you would be the rebound. Some people don't always realize that they are just using people for a rebound and think they have feelings for someone and subconsciously they really just have feelings for the other person and they are mistaking that for their feelings for the rebound.

it is pretty much when you go out with someone right after a relationship goes bad. not like, a short relationship, but a long meaningful one. it is mostly a subconsiese (sorry it's spelled wrong) thing where someone who just got out of the relationship thing goes out with another girl/guy to get back at the former bf/gf. even if they don't know that is what they are doing. the relationship doesn't last long normally, because the person who is doing the rebound either finds something wrong with the person they started dating, or the rebound fills it's purpose and gets the former bf/gf jealous.

When some people break up from a relationship, they don't really give themselves time to work through the pain and heartache. Sometimes they quickly get into another relationship, to forget the pain from the first breakup. They then put their emotions into the second partner, without truly knowing them. That's a rebound. It usually doesn't work out with the second relationship, because they haven't dealt with the pain from the first relationship.
Hope this helps.

A "rebound relationship" is one in which a person becomes overly quick to commit to a new partner after having experienced an upsetting breakup or divorce. People who have breakups and then immediatley involved themselves with someone else seem to feel the need to prove to themselves they are worthy of love and affection. They may miss the comfort and affection of a regular relationship. But whatever the reason is, it is a selfish reason, one that is based on serving the self esteem and satisfying feeling of personal worth. "Someone loves me and needs me." It can also be to affirm "I wasn't at fault in the breakup, this relationship will prove that." Most of these rebound relationships are not permanent, and they can be even more destructive than the earlier breakup.

they also suck!

cuz once you get into them they begin to dilapidate, dissolve, be gone!!!

A rebound is when you go right from one relationship to another. Being "on the rebound" means you just got outta a relationship and someone might wanna wait a bit before they try to date you, in order to avoid potential disaster. Make sense?

After breaking up with a long time relationship I decided I needed a boy friend to do things with. I started collecting them. I was feeling rejected and hurt that someone I felt truly in love with found some one he found more sexually attractive so I tried to become more sexually attractive.

The pain from the previous relationship spilled over in to how I treated others. Rather than be more reclusive I now no longer cared for the feeling of the boys.

Then a special 1 came along and he treated me so special I just fell in love.

A rebound is when you come out of a relationship and you immediately pursue someone else not because you actually like or feel for them but because you want to be in a relationship.
rebounds dont usually work out.
sometimes ppl get with a "rebound" to make their ex jealous.
Sometimes they are just looking for companionship.

It means right after the break up, the person on the REBOUND is the one that got DUMPED and starts dating ANY body that comes his or her way, regardless who the next person is,because that person is still hurting and doesn't want to be alone. In other words, the person who was dumped is trying to fill in the gap. That's the best explanation I could give through experience.
