I'm always really paranoid when I get my hair cut short. I'm a bigger girl( sz 16) and I'm always afraid that having a short hairstyle makes me look bigger. My hubbie and friends say I'm crazy, but I just can't shake the feeling that I look bigger with shorter hair. What do you guys think? Does the shorter hairstyle make a big girl look even bigger?

The general rule is that bigger women shouldn't wear their hair too long, because it brings attention to their lower-half, nor too short, because it makes the head look smaller and the body look bigger in comparison. The best cut is one that is mid-length that is longer that chin length but shorter than breast-bone length.
I would just ignore these rules and wear your hair however you please......you should be happy with the way your hair compliments your facial features and it should be an extension of your personality. If you like short spiky hair, the go for it-----if you like Rapunzel length hair, then go for it. It should only matter that you like your hair.
That said, I recently read an article that the most flattering length on any body type is one that falls a few inches past the shoulders and is lightly layered---like this one on America Ferrera:

I'm wondering how short you're talking about. I am also a big girl (sz 18), and I feel the same way if I cut my hair really short (above the collar, above the ears on the sides). I think it makes me look heavier and also less feminine. I feel pretty good when I keep it about shoulder length, though.

I don't think a short hairstyle makes a person look bigger. What I like most about a short hairstyle is that it gives you a sophisticated, put together look. I'ts also easy to fix. You should go for it, you'll love it.

It depends on your bone structure and the shape of your face. Why not get a friend with a camera and go try on wigs, take pictures and see what you think.

i think if it's too short and kind of flat, it can make your head look like a pear on top of a fridge. but, if it's a fuller, slightly longer short cut, it can look great! only problem is you have to style it every day.

it depends on how you carry the short hair. there are big girls who looked good with short hair, some with long hair. it really depends
